The night had promptly passed and soon, Gracie found herself chewing on some chocolate she had found in her fridge, deeming it as sufficient and appropriate for the key meal of the day.
She watched as Bug ate out of his food bowl, the only sound engulfing the flat being the crunching of Bug's chewing and Gracie's soft humming to the song playing in her earpiece.
The comfortable tune was interrupted by Gracie's phone chime, enrapturing the attention of the two in the room.
Glancing at her phone screen, she read, 'Gracie, this is Harry. Proceed to the gym's boxing ring now. Ask for directions if you get lost.'
Sighing softly, she slipped off her seat and gave Bug a pat, nuzzling his face before getting up to leave, only to have him trail her.
"I'll be back in a jiffy, Bug" she assured, crouching down to meet the puppy at eye level.
"Stay, alright?"
As though he understood, the puppy sat down, staring at his owner with his big, blue eyes.
"Good boy" she cooed, smiling before she gently shut the door behind her.
Having memorised the layout of the base and it's levels, she had little to no issue navigating her way to her destination, weaving through the people who walked quickly, their eyes scanning Gracie as she zipped past them, unknowing that she was doing the same.
"I'm here," she made her presence aware once she arrived, eyes watching the small crowd of people with their back turned towards her twist to the sound of her voice.
"Splendid timing," Harry hummed in pleasure, walking towards her to guide her to the side of the empty ring.
"Now, do you know how to fight?" He enquired, eyeing the small female in slight doubt.
"I was never taught how, but I suppose I've picked some skills up till now," she shrugged, unsure of her capabilities as she rolled her wrists.
"I see, I'll assess you and help you improve, and if I find fitting, I'll have someone else spar against you," he summed up his plans, before lifting up her hand to examine it.
"We wouldn't want to split your knuckles or injure your wrists, so wrap them up," he instructed, grabbing the roll of hand wrap before placing it into her hands.
"Right, do we need all the councilmen to be here for this? It's just training, isn't it?"
"Of course, but it's a traditional procedure for all batches of recruits."
A lie.
Of course, his lack of hesitance had thrown her off. She wasn't quite confident if that slight sharp increase in pitch was merely a coincidence or it was a underlying hint of his lies.
"Right," she mumbled, getting to taping her hand messily, uncaring off properly taping herself.
"Unroll the tape"
"What? Why?" Despite the order, she chose to momentarily pause, rather than undo her effortless doings.
"I want you to tape your hand properly. We'll only start once you've done so."
Irritably, she undid the tape hastily, not the slightest bit fond of having been corrected over an issue as small as that before retrying carefully, ensuring the tape covers the knuckles evenly.
