Chapter 9

Bells's POV

I stifle a scream. What the actual hell?! Travis chuckled and Calypso giggled. She must have known I would react that way. I punched Travis slightly in the arm and he pushed me back a little, softly. Katie stood up and walked to the center. She picked up a vase from the coffee table that was moved previously. She closed her eyes and touched the plant with her palm. The plant grew and flourished. It was mesmerizing. Its colors grew brighter and more beautiful. She walked over and gave it to Travis. He blushed. Thalia and Jason glanced at each other and nodded. They stood up and hit Percy with lightning. We all laughed. "What the hell was that for?" They shrugged and sat back down.

My mouth was wide open. Shist. These dudes were like superheroes. Compared to them, I must look like a chipmunk that can swing her tail back and forth. Dakota looked at me. "You were wrong at lunch, my dad is Bacchus actually." He looked at me in the eye and said "Ill only make it last a little, and by the way, sorry in advance." He shut his eyes and suddenly I wanted to puke. I had blurry vision and white blotches appeared out of nowhere. Everything became white and I felt like I was about to pass out. I stood up and then suddenly it all stopped. I fell down and if Travis wouldn't have caught me, I would have definitely hit my head hard.

Everything seemed to be becoming normal again. Connor stood up and said, "Are you okay? I'll bring you some nectar." He left. Travis set me down again back in my spot and sat down next to me again. Katie was on her knees in front of me. "Wow, you're a champ. When he does that; most people pass out at once." She said. "I almost did" I manage to whisper. Connor came back with some nectar for me to sip. He gave it to me and turned to Dakota. "What the hell?" I loved that he felt protective of me, but I didn't want him to get mad. "Its fine Connor, I'm fine." I said. I put my hand on his arm and he seemed to calm down and sat down again on the floor.

Dakota sat down. "Okay, one more demonstration." I said. I didn't think I could stand another one of those. "Ill see the rest later." I said. "Well, if this is going to be the last one, it may as well be the weirdest, too." Said Frank. He stood up and went to the middle. Hazel had a grin on her face. "What's your favorite animal?" he asked. "Owls." He sat down and closed his eyes. Then, where Frank had been sitting there was an owl. It fluttered through the room and sat down on my shoulder. "Is that?" I asked, to no one in particular. "Yes"-said Hazel.

Suddenly I feel pretty bad about myself. In comparison to these guys I was quite un-extraordinary. I don't really deserve to be hanging out with these guys. They were extremely talented and had gone through so much together, I wondered if I could ever really be a part of their 'group', to say something. Of course, I couldn't let them know I felt this way. I struggled with confidence since childhood, always worried about what others thought of me. I was kind of pudgy as a tween, but when I started to run from monsters and fight them I became fit and stronger. My confidence had gone up somewhat, but not completely. I was still pretty self-conscious; even if it didn't look like it. People say the hardest thing is dealing with unhappiness, but what is even harder is pretending to be okay; while being unhappy underneath.

So I did what I always did, put on a smile and try to act as confident as possible, hopefully being somewhat believable. "That was amazing Frank!" I said as Frank went back to his seat. He blushed slightly. "Thanks," he muttered. These were all really nice people, I thought; why would they be mean to you? Don't be stupid. I scolded myself for being so self-conscious. We talked for a bit and shared stories. They told me of the time Jason ate a stapler, and how Annabeth's first words to Percy were: "you drool when you sleep." After some time, it was getting late and Leo, Calypso, Frank, Hazel, Piper, Dakota and Jason and Reyna had left; leaving Percabeth (as I have taken a habit of calling them), Katie, Travis, Connor, Nico and Thalia. Nico stood up and said, "Well, I guess I will be going," and shadow traveled out.
