Chapter 18
Travis POV
Okay, so that did NOT go as planned, Connor had interrupted Katie before she could say anything, then Athena had appeared and now Bells is somehow a descendant of Poseidon... Daaaaammmn. I mean what are the odds. A huge wave of relief washed over me. Bells was okay. Hopefully no long-term damage had been created.
The sun faded into the horizon in camp Half Blood and the rest of the peeps had joined us here. This day had been extremely tiring so far. Hopefully tomorrow, Sunday, would be a little calmer. Bad news was we still had to discuss the last part of the prophecy, the one talked about a quest. The battle in camp half blood against Gaea had been devastating, Nico was still in the process of redecorating his cabin when he came to camp, The sons and daughters of Dionysus were still replanting the grape vines with the help of the Demeter cabin and I wasn't sure camp was ready for another quest.
I decided to move that thought to the back of my mind. Annabeth had told Percy and the others about the prophecy and everyone was in a poopy mood. I decided what a better time to move up the surprise attack prank to now. I hurriedly walked up to Connor who was washing his hands in the Hermes cabin bathroom. Everyone went back to their cabins and Annabeth led Bells to the Athena one for her to meet some of her others brothers and sisters like Malcolm and Riley. Frank visited Clarisse and Jason oversaw the building of another shrine to some obscure goddess I probably didn't know about.
"Move operation eliminate threat to now," I hushed. "What?" Connor was so startled by my sudden appearance that he jumped in a 360 and a bunch of water sprayed my face. "People need a cheer up and what a better way to administer it than through pranking?" I gathered up all the supplies I had stored away on the rack on top of the cabin and headed towards the Hephaestus cabin. Passing through most bunks until I found a secret bunk with so many blueprints I wondered how so many ideas could come out of the same head- Leo's.
I looked inside my travelers bag and found the note Calypso had once left me before leaving to camp. It was some kind of threat saying that if she came back and her cabin was full pumpkin she would cut my throat, and then add a zipper so I looked like a weird Frankenstein. That didn't really matter much now. What mattered was her handwriting. It seemed that the letter contained every letter in the alphabet. I grabbed it with one hand and set to work with the other.
I managed to finish before the entire Hephaestus cabin got back from the forges to change for dinner and campfire. The false note was on top of Leo's bed and I decided to head out. Hopefully Connor had done his part. We would soon find out.
Then, footsteps coming out of the forge kept coming near. I lunged behind some bushes that were on both sides of the Hephaestus cabin. Please don't see me, please don't see me. Leo was heading toward the door. I had to leave quickly but if I came out of the bushes his brothers would see me. I looked behind me and saw a path that led to the end of the road of the second set of cabins. Better take the long way out then. I ran through the back-path until I finally saw the dim, purple light coming from the Hecate cabin.
Whoosh that was a close one. I once read something- nah just kidding I don't read- someone once told me that the best way to sneak around is to not look like you're sneaking around. I strolled out of the bushes and straight back to the Ping-Pong table in which we were going to discuss the prophecy. Footsteps behind me made me turn around and saw Leo jogging to catch up. "Hey man, on your way to the meeting?" he asked. Act natural. "Yeah, had to run some errands in the Hecate cabin, while I'm here, you know." "It's a bit solemn now, maybe I'll throw a joke or two in during campfire. To lighten the mood you know. If you see me, it wouldn't hurt if you joined in." he said.
Great minds think alike, I thought. Don't worry Leo, I'll join in alright. The door was open to the rec room and all the cabin counselors were sitting around the familiar table. Our most serious meetings usually took place over pizza and sodas. Some may say that an accurate depiction of the differences between Greeks and Romans was that:
Romans: JOIN RANKS! ADVANCE! ROMANA FULMINATA!
Greeks: Oh Crap! Okay, GUYS LETS JUST, YOU KNOW, KILL SCHIST!
Yeah... pretty much. Bells was currently still recovering in the infirmary and even if she was fully recovered, we wouldn't ask her to join in this meeting, since Annabeth said she didn't want her to know just yet. Speak of the devil. In that moment, said daughter of Athena joined the meeting with Percy and took their seats beside Chiron.
"Annabeth, you're here. Lets commence the meeting then." Leo fumbled with his paper clip while Clarisse threatened to shove it up his nose if he didn't stop. "Can you recite the prophecy again, please," Chiron said, not really asking. I looked at Percy while Annabeth repeated it; his reaction was priceless. He choked on his blue cookie.
Just then, Connor burst through the door, panting and sweating. He took a seat and the meeting continued. "Soooo, this mystical quest that will somehow give Bells her powers has to happen when exactly?" asked Leo. "And who should we send? Where do we have to send them? Athena didn't quite leave it clear to us." Will Solace asked, the head of the Apollo cabin, sat next to Nico. "I understand my mother can be quite hard to understand most of the time. That is why we need answers. I say, we don't risk the chance of sending someone on a quest to nowhere until it is more clear to us."
"Who knows, maybe there is going to be no danger or monsters for a while. Maybe no quest is necessary." I said. I was wrong.
