Chapter 19

Katie’s POV

The adrenaline of a friends possible death faded away, and left in its path only tiredness. After dinner, we headed back to our cabins- Travis and Connor rather reluctant to leave Bells alone in the infirmary just to be sure. The poison had left her system as soon as the water touched her, but she was still asleep. Poor Bells, shell be so confused when she finds out she's a descendant of Poseidon.

What I don't get is, did Athena a Poseidon have a blurry night? If so, how is she not a goddess? So many questions to be answered and no information. Back in my cabin, I tended to the beautiful orchid in my bedside table before covering myself with blankets and dozing off.

Sunday had arrived and I my body didn't want to push itself out of the bed. Although in camp, sundays meant karaokes and capture the flags, it also meant that monday was lurking in the corner. High school for demigods was just as much of a bore as it was for mortals. I decided to get some homework done before breakfast and I got as far as finishing my biology and starting geometry. Teachers had decided that the week of back to school free time was over now and assigned homework- ugh.

Other kids had started to wake up and I decided to take the bathroom before it filled up. Picking out an oversized flannel shirt with leggings and matching blue converse, I showered and got ready. The mess hall was pretty empty filled with only the early risers- including Annabeth, Will and Frank. I sat with them at the table. “Did you guys sleep alright?” I asked. Will and Frank said yes, while Annabeth mumbled and looked away.

Finishing my sausage and eggs, I poured some into the fire pit and headed towards the sword fighting arena. Watching Bells had made me realize that when it came to combat I was pretty much useless without my powers. What if there were no plants nearby, I was then totally and inevitably screwed.

This would be pretty hard since I didn't know the first thing in sword combat and I was way too awkward to ask anyone for help. Beside the fact that I had been in camp since I was 9 and I still didn't know how to hold a knife.

I decided to just grab whichever one and start hacking at the dummies. After a few minutes, my arm hurt and I had ampoules on my hands. However, a feeling as if someone was behind me lurked. I turned around, swinging my sword for it only to be countered with Travis’s. In a swift movement, he took mine; not even losing his breath.

“If you’re here to make fun of me like you always do, the exit is that way.” I said, cuttingly. “I’m here to help, Katie. I know it looks like I prank you a lot, but as mind-blowing as it seems, I don't want to hurt you,” he said. He didn't bring up the incident in the big house. Maybe he changed his mind. My heart fell at the thought. “Fine, but only if you promise not to make fun of me.”

“Well, that sword is about two sizes too big and you’re holding it wrong.” We stood there, him holding two swords and me with blisters in my hand, in the middle of the arena. “Also, your feet are too close together and you look tremendously cute in that outfit,” Travis pointed out, making me blush. “Thanks.”

He didn't make any more flirty comments for the next hour during which he taught me the right way to stand and hold the sword. Neither of us mentioning the kiss. I thanked him before heading out, but he caught my hand and pulled me back. I crashed onto his chest and looked up. “Hey, about what I said before, the offer is still up.” My heart fluttered.

I decided to play hard to get and said: “I’ll think about it” before heading out. Other campers were filing in after breakfast and started on their daily practice.
