Chapter 20
Frank POV

Heading out of breakfast, I tripped and fell down the stairs. There was no bleeding but now my behind was sore... darn it. The archery was pretty empty when I got there to practice a bit before capture the flag. I hadn't really had a chance to practice while we were in school. Now that I realize it, it is pretty weird no monsters have tried to attack us.
"Hi!" Hazel said, a few sheaths later. She startled me so much I punched myself in the face with the bow. Wow. Clumsy Frank- strike two. "Oh, are you ok? Sorry for startling you." "No, its okay, haha,"I said, blushing. "Anyway, I just came by to say hi also, I need your help with a school project. I would ask Annabeth but she has kitchen duty today and..." "I'll help you" I interrupted. "What do you need?" "I am just really bad at algebra and I have this test coming up." "Don't worry, I will help you with it and I'm sure you will do amazing like you always do."
"Why, thank you Mr. Praetor," Hazel said, giving me a kiss on the cheek and hurrying off to the stables to teach the younger campers how to ride. Suddenly, I remembered I also had to teach an archery class in thirty minutes and I hadn't even gotten the extra practice bows and arrows yet. I rapidly pulled the arrows from the target and packed them back in their sheath. Then, running a check list in my head- practice bows, plastic arrows, arm guards, and dummies just for an extra kick- I sat down.
After about five minutes eight of the ten kids had shown up. All in ages ranging from seven to ten years old and all with no experience what so ever... great. I have never taught a class before even though older campers were expected to help out with the smaller ones. Usually, though, the Apollo cabin took care of archery but today they were all busy setting up for some campfire sing along/karaoke. Karaoke wasn't that common either, but since most of the older campers had come back to camp for the weekend we decided to celebrate.
"Hello guys, I'm Frank and I am going to be teaching you the basics of archery today. If you will please tell me your name and your godly parent if you know it we can get started quickly." One of the kids caught my attention. She was rather tall for her age range and had deep brown eyes and dirty blonde hair. The reason why she stood out was because she kept looking at me intently, as if trying to read my mind, while all the other kids were looking at the bows.
"Hi, Im Astrid daughter of Apollo," the girl said without taking her gaze off my eyes. "Is it true that you defeated an entire army of dead legionnaires by yourself and that is how you became praetor?" I blushed. "I wasn't by myself, Jason, Piper and Nico were there and they fought very bravely as well." "But you were the only one who became praetor. You led the the attack didn't you?" She asked. "Um, yes I did." I wasn't sure what to say. "Awesome."
After that all the other kids began to be more interested in Archery and I was surprised to see how fast some learned; not all of them necessarily being children of Apollo. I helped them in all I could and taught them how to stand and aim. At the end of the class they all had sore forearms from the bowstring hitting them past the arm guard and tired demeanor from shooting at the ground several times. After reassuring them that it takes practice and that they did well for their first class I headed put the supplies back in the deposit and headed for my cabin.
Geography and Literature homework later, I found myself walking towards lunch. The path from my cabin to the mess hall was a short one and by the time I got there it was already full. Unlike in the Legion, here we all sat at tables and waited for it to fill up to begin eating. My table consisted of Hazel, Leo, Calypso, Jason, Piper, Will, and Nico.
Chiron silenced the mess hall and began his usual accounting of activities and welcoming me and my friends back to camp. "In the light of the visit of some of our oldest and most loved campers, the Apollo cabin is organizing a karaoke in addition to the regular campfire sing along in the amphitheater." At this, Will smiled at Nico. Hazel noticed and had a thoughtful look; I'll ask her later what she knows. "Now, for the part you have all been waiting for; the teams for capture the flag. To be fair, the captains have already been chosen to be Percy and Jason since they cannot be on the same team.
Now, they may sort out the rest of the cabins and put the list in the amphitheater." We all began eating and saved some of the food to give in an offering. I did notice that in the middle of our meal, Bells walked in and sat, resting her head in Travis's shoulder, in the table behind me.
"So, how did your class go Frank? I often teach the youngsters but they needed me in the infirmary. Someone burned their hair and had some really bad scars," said Will. "Good! This one girl proved to be really good. She's your half sister Astrid." "Oh yeah, It took me several weeks to try and convince her to go to archery class but she would refuse to go if I was teaching. I guess she had no excuse now. Astrid is an amazing singer as well. Maybe she will give karaoke a try." While Will finished speaking, the conversation between Leo and Calypso had become rather heated.
"What do you mean you didn't put a note in my bed?!" Leo asked. "I mean I didn't put a note on your bed." "So who asked me to change the address of the fireworks? What were those coordinates of?" Leo asked. "I have no idea!" "Oh, man." Travis chuckled behind me but I decided not to say anything. I still hadn't fully forgotten how Leo had tried to take Hazel from me.
Two minutes later, four windows shattered with a loud and colorful blow and fireworks came inside the mess hall. However, their behavior defied all firework normal behavior and chased Leo around the building; yapping at his butt. It resembled very much the scene in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in which Umbridge was chased by a firework dragon but a little bit less impressive.
Leo cursed loudly earning him a lot of laughs from the older campers and questioning looks from the youngsters. It was really funny actually, watching Leo run around the mess hall being chased by bum-zapping fireworks. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Travis and Connor fist bump and laugh hysterically and Bells was smiling brightly.
Lunch was over and people went back to their classes, a smile on their faces.
