It took exactly a year and a half, but it was complete. For a moment, while looking around our new home, seeing how in a short time all this, achieved. My gaze stops. I see Cousin Luna at the entrance of the U-shaped driveway. Looking towards his right and to the mountains visible from our home. It doesn't take a rocket whizz to know where his thoughts.
"Thinking of Ben Primo?" My wulf spoken tone asks, with his response. Primo's shoulders reveal a slight sag. Yet he continues gazing towards the mountain tops. "yes. I miss him cuz" his wulf speak held a tone of hurt and yearning. "I have not seen him in fourteen years. A long time, Alina. He is my baby boy."
"He will come, Luna. Give him time."
"How are you so sure, Cousin Alina?"
"Because Primo, he's a MAISONET."
His tone reflects a parent's yearning, a father searching, desiring his cub. "Its been so long, Alina. Will he remember me? " My mind begins filling with my mown yearning for my pack brother. To ease Luna's nerves, I tell him, "You raised us all together. Gave us love, protected us, and trained us to survive. He loves you more than any of us, cousin a rival of Alpha's own. He wants nothing more than to be with you. Have patience; he will come. He's a Maisonet. We are a stubborn bunch." The response I hear now changes. Displaying phenomenal power charged with electricity that instantly closes our expansive distance, sending shivers down my spine. It is not my cousin's. But Luna Sable. His emotions, in sync with Primo.
Luna Sable's unsettling wulf spoken tone "So Do I, Clementina, so do I." eluding to his determination on finding Ben. Without another word and his back to me. Primo shifts his stance from the mountains from where he scents Ben. To the bending road leading to our driveway.
Yet his head turns once more, looking towards the mountain. For a moment, the temporary stillness shows from his body language. I can tell he and Luna Sable are having a conversation. And from the rumble heard in a previously cloudless sky above us, their emotions are tense.
"Sabe?" Aware of what I was thinking, Sable, answers confirming my decision.
"Yes, Alejandro. When we have finished, we will search for OUR cub."
"What about Reuben & Crimson? How will...."
"HE IS MY CUB. MY SPECIAL CUB. They will come to accept him." Sable's decision is ave certain and resolute. I hesitate yet to ask. "Sabe, But what if...?"
Interrupting me, Sable shares what he felt. His explanation clarifies his point.
"Because you are human, my soul companion. It is in your nature to question. Give in to insecurities, uncertainty, and often do not express your true feelings. As a result, humans cause conflict by miscommunications. Being wulf, I share no such emotions. We are decisive. As my destined mate, Crimson will accept Ben knowing he will be OUR CUB. Make him a sire. He will have a family Alejandro, the ultimate desire of all wulves. A family. Crimson will push these emotions to Reuben. As a result, Reuben will also accept him. Yet, for a different reason...."
Sabe's pause makes me push, "ummmm, Wanna finish telling me why?"
"Because it will make you happy, Alejandro. and that will make Reuben happy."
It made sense and was clear, "Thanks, Sabe." Feeling reassured. My attention refocuses on the approaching vehicles Sable scented earlier. Informing me of their approach.
With the change in his demeanor and stance, I am guessing Primo ended his conversation with Luna Sable. His stance shifts at the bottom of the driveway from gazing towards the mountain with desire.
With lifted shoulders of confidence and a sense of security, Luna stood staring down the winding roadway and the incoming pack members. Following his lead, I shift my gaze. Towards the distant sounds of tires on gravel growing louder. Engines in need of tune-ups heard as their timing belts squeaked.
From our different vantage points, we see the arriving pack members appear from the bend in the distance. Saluting hands begin arising out of car windows waving. Eager to find and settle into their new home.
From where I stood atop a small mound in front of the established Caretakers Home, Alpha Reuben had come to check on the rooms and medical staff he hired for the facility. Having done that, he now comes to join me on the mounds, gazing around as I was. Our grin is a testament to the results of the completion of the renovations. Lifting his eyebrows high. Alpha rub's his forehead with amazement. Alpha Reuben shares with me. His task involving all the work. His baritone voice audible above all the noise still occurring.
"I still can't believe it, Alina. It began with the mountain of paperwork needed completion. To buy out the town's residents & businesses. The main tunnel's placement under the towns. Leading to the packhouse for safety in case of an attack. Inspectors needed to assist with local, state, and federal ordinances and legislation. Next came the hiring of wer's who general contractors.
The expedited security blueprints linking all the towns to the new packhouse. Finally, ensuring construction workers scheduled around the clock for twelve-hour shifts. To be sure, the relocation date will begin as scheduled. I have to say this is a miracle! Don't tell Luna this, but I am still amazed it took only a year."
With a side chuckle, I respond to Alpha. "Ahh. Hmmm, I take it then. Titi (aunt) Cary, having pack members high within the federal government, has nothing to do with it. huh?" Laughing at his grinning shocked response, "WELL SHIT!! THAT SHE-WULF HAS IN----FLU-----ENCE!" Remembering the frustration, he was experiencing with the licenses. Until Titi (aunt), Cary called a pack member for a 'FAVOR.'
Thinking to myself, "Thank you, Goddess Oya. For you have blessed us."
Reminiscing back fourteen years. While hiking here, my cousin, at the time, afflicted with amnesia. Found us in these very woods and raised us as his own. Protecting, hunting, teaching us his surrogate pack how to be self-sufficient. Luna gave of himself then, as he continues to do so. His sacrifice was paternal then. Now its a leader. He is continually proving. Family is not blood relations but also the emotional bonds we forge with one another.
