Earning Her Trust

Chapter 4

Hi everyone!
This chapter and the next one or two will be in Derek's POV. It starts off from before he met her and catches up in the next chapter.
I've tried really really hard to not just copy and past Avery's chapters and change all the "he" to "I" and have actually put in a lot if extra stuff and his thoughts and feelings.

Oh and just to be clear it goes....
Alpha
Beta
Gamma (third in command)
Delta (fourth in command and head warrior)

DEREK POV:

"Ok these are all the profiles of the pack members I believe would make good warriors." James, my younger brother and Delta said to me whilst handing over a stack of pack member files. "I narrowed it down after watching everyone during training sessions."

Being Delta makes him the head warrior so every six months he'll pick out the pack members showing the most promise during general training sessions that all members partake in.

"This is a list of the members who need a bit more work first and I'll review them again in a month"

"Excellent. I want to hear how the others are progressing within the next wee-"

I'm cut off by my Beta Tommy through our mind link, "Derek I got a rogue walking along the stream"

I growl lowly, "What's wrong?" James asks me
"Tommy found a fucking rogue on the border" I spit out

James growls as well, he hates rogues just as much as I do because of what they did to our parents. I'm not stupid though, I know some wolfs don't want to become rogues and they aren't all that bad so I ask, "Has he crossed over to our side yet?"

The reply is quick, "Not yet, I'm following him along behind some trees. I'll wait to see what he does first."
"How far along?"
There's a pause, "About hallway up the stream"
"How the fuck did you not detect him sooner, Tommy?"
"I don't know, I swear to god I didn't smell a thing"

I growl in annoyance, "Keep me updated"
"Hold up, he's climbing out now"
"Our side?"
"Yeah. Hang on I'll sort it out...FUCK!"
"What?!" I roar
"He ran when he heard me behind him"
"THEN GO AFTER HIM!" I demand in an alpha tone.
Unnecessary maybe, but when people run they usually have something to hide.

"He's a fast little mother fucker, I'll give him that"
"You mean to tell me some rogue is outrunning my Beta?"
"Relax Mr. Grumpy pants, I'll catch him"

I cut off our mind link to let him concentrate on the task at hand. I rest my elbows on my desk and rub my temples. I have so much more important stuff to worry about.

I sigh audibly and tell James to go find my Gamma to help him work out some training plans for the new warriors.
I'm left alone with my thoughts for a few moments, something that doesn't happen often. I glance across my desk to the picture above the fireplace. It's of my father, the previous Alpha and his mate, my mother.

At the thought of mates my wolf Drake starts getting restless, pacing in circles in my mind. That's odd, the thought of a mate normally gets him a little worked up because he wants to find her soon so he can keep her safe but he isn't usually this distressed about it.

I think back to the rogue Tommy is chasing as we speak. God I hate rogues. They took my family away from me. I had to take over as Alpha before I was even 18 and the title caused me to shift early. My sister found her mate soon after and left our pack to join his. My poor younger brother was forced to grow up way too fast. He's 19 now but he acts more like he's 30. Every now and then I get a glimpse of the kid he used to be but its not often.
