When Stiles arrived home with Rose after a long walk, the aroma of chinese take-out hit him as soon as he walked through the door.
"Stiles, is that you?" His father called out from the kitchen.
"Yes it's me, dad," Stiles yelled back, proceeding to throw his backpack onto the couch, he turned to Rose and gestured for her backpack which he placed with his, "you haven't met my dad yet... he's pretty cool but he asks a lot of questions. Don't worry, I'll answer for you."
"Okay." Rose replied, following Stiles into the kitchen.
"Hey kid... hey Rose." Noah added as he spotted the girl who stood slightly behind Stiles.
"Hi." She said quietly, giving the Sheriff a small smile.
"I ordered Chinese... I hope that's okay? I'm not really sure what you ate." Noah admitted as he took a seat at the dining table, gesturing for the pair to sit down.
"I'm sure she'll eat anything, dad." Stiles said, rolling his eyes.
"Considering your girlfriend... I mean, ex-girlfriend used to eat deer... you can forgive me for being curious." His dad said as he opened one of the take-away boxes and stuck his chopsticks into the box.
Stiles groaned, "okay, we're not talking about Malia tonight."
"Who's Malia?" Rose asked as she struggled to pick up a noodle with her chopsticks.
"She used to be my girlfriend, but it didn't work out..." he trailed off, leaving out the part about how he was in love with someone else during their relationship, "you'll meet her tomorrow, in fact I'll introduce you to the whole pack!"
"Pack?" Rose repeated, even more confused.
"I meant my friends." Stiles corrected himself before stuffing a piece of chicken into his mouth to avoid answering anything else.
"So, Rose, how was school today?" Noah asked her, raising his eyebrows as she finally figured out how to use the utensils in front of her.
"Mm..." She muttered between mouthfuls, "it was good."
"I'm glad! So..." Noah looked like he was building up to something as he glanced between his son and his new house guest, "I've never had a girl stay with us, as it's just been me and my boy, so do you need anything? You know... lady products or...?" he trailed off, unsure of how to finish his sentence.
Stiles nearly choked on his food as his eyes widened, "dad!"
"What? It's a genuine question." His father said.
"I'll deal with that, you just... do whatever you do, okay?" Stiles said.
Noah sighed, "fine... but I also want to set house rules since Rose is going to be living here for the unseeable future."
"Here we go." Stiles muttered.
"One, no funny business between the two of you," He said as he pointed at them both, "and two, no house parties."
"That's it?" Stiles asked, surprised.
"I like to think I can trust you, both of you— so yes, that's it." Noah said as he continued to eat his Chinese.
No one said a word for the rest of the meal, Stiles cleaned up before heading upstairs, followed by Rose.
As he closed the door to his room he turned to see Rose already looking at him.
"Stiles? What did your father mean when he said 'no funny business'?" She asked innocently.
"Oh, um," Stiles scratched his neck nervously, "it's nothing... I guess he just doesn't want us to you know, date... or it would be awkward for all of us."
Stiles noticed her trying to figure out what dating was and he explained it like everything else, "it's not a problem anyway, I mean it'd never happen anyway."
"Oh... okay." Rose nodded.
"Let's, um, teach you how read and write." He said as he changed the subject quickly.
Sitting cross-legged on his double bed, Stiles began to teach Rose the basics of reading and writing. Even teaching her the highlighting technique Malia had showed him, green for 'I understand', orange for 'I'm not so sure' and red for 'I have no idea what this is.'
"I think most of my notes will be red." Rose said sadly.
Stiles looked over at her, noticing how sad she looked that she didn't understand.
"Rose... listen to me, okay? I know it's going to be hard, and you're not going to understand everything straight away... but I'll be there every step with you and I'm going to teach you everything I know." He said whilst reaching over and placing his hand over hers.
Rose looked up at him, her hazel brown eyes staring into his, she was silent for a moment before she nodded, "thank you, Stiles. I'm sorry for not understanding a lot... but I'm trying."
Stiles moved the books off of the bed and turned to her, "that's enough for tonight... why don't we watch a film? I know this great series..."
After Stiles explained what films were he grabbed his laptop and the first Star Wars film and sat besides her on his bed, pressing play.
Halfway through the film he noticed she'd fallen asleep, he quietly closed his laptop and pulled the duvet over her, he watched her sleep for a moment before shaking his head and heading downstairs to sleep on the couch.
He lay awake staring up at the ceiling for most of the night until he finally drifted off to sleep, his mind was too busy thinking about Rose. He knew he had to stop, he liked Lydia, in fact he was sure he was in love with her, but one small part of his mind couldn't stop wondering back to the girl asleep upstairs.
When the morning finally came, Stiles checked his phone before getting up— he'd missed a string of texts from the pack groupchat, all of them wondering who Rose was after Lydia mentioned her. Stiles read through all of the messages before typing a quick reply.

He put his phone down and made his way upstairs, repeating the same routine as yesterday. Luckily Lydia left the other clothes she's brought over so Rose could wear something different, but he made a mental note to take her shopping on the weekend.
"Ready to meet everybody?" Stiles asked as they made their way to school by foot.
"I think so... will Scott be there?" She asked hopefully.
Stiles furrowed his eyebrows, "yes, why?"
Rose shrugged, "just wondering." She replied softly before their journey returned to silence again.
He stared straight ahead as he walked to school, wondering why she asked about Scott. He dismissed the thought and wondered how he was going to explain everything, if he were to tell the truth Lydia would know he lied, but if he told the others his lie it would make everything more complicated.
Heaving a sigh as they entered the school grounds, he decided to do what was right and tell everyone the truth, even if he had to let Lydia down.
