Chapter ten: Ties

I woke up and Lou was already gone, so I checked my phone

From: Lou

Good morning beautiful, I hope you slept well! There’s some money on your bathroom counter to buy something nice for tonight, be ready by 7! I love you! Xx

Awesome!  I wonder where we’re going. Well its 11 am now so I may as well get ready for today. I jumped in the steaming hot shower and washed the salt and sand out of my hair. I got out of the shower and picked out some jeans with a dark grey hoodie and my usual boots before doing my amazingly boring waterproof make-up and blow drying my hair collecting the $200 off the bench and putting it in my purse. Glancing at the clock it was already quarter to so there’s no point in eating I’ll just grab something there.

Next thing I knew Beth was there at my doorstep stomping the mud out of her boots, before letting herself in.

“What are we doing?” She asked brushing the rain off her jumper.

“Lou gave me money to buy a dress so, we’re going shopping!”

“I love shopping!”

After a very long and tiring day of shopping with Beth, who evidently loved looking in every single shop that was at the place, I bought a cream dress with a criss-cross pattern at the back which came into a bow at the end and flared out at the bottom.  With some plain black heels with a strap that does over the top. I’m not very good at remembering brands or anything, Beth tries to explain it but it never quite gets through to me, I just call things what they look like.

Beth and I got home at about 5 and Beth insisted staying and helping me get ready, and demanded me to get into the shower and wash my hair, again! By the time I got out it was 5:30 and Beth was getting anxious. I don’t know what she planned to do with my hair but while I got into my dressing gown in my bedroom she set up my bathroom like a saloon with my mouse, curling iron and make up at the ready. I have always hated blow drying my hair, it takes ages, and when you put mouse in you have to completely dry it, so it took a good half hour to dry my hair, with another half hour to fully curl it. Beth made me turn away from the mirror while she caked my face with foundation and lip gloss and whatnot and wouldn’t let me turn around until the “great reveal” after I put my dress on.

By the time she let me put my dress on it was 5 to and Lou was already at the door waiting for me, he’s never late, which was a good thing, usually. Beth took a step back and admired her work before letting me see. I didn’t look too bad, she kept the make up looking natural and I must say the dress suits me. I slipped on a cardigan before walking out to my prince charming, holding roses with the biggest smile on his face.

“Aren’t you just a little bit beautiful?” he smiled holding the flowers out to me and hugging me close.

“Thank you so much!” I kissed him on the cheek before taking the roses away from him and placing them in a crystal vase.

“You guys have fun!” Beth yelled walking out the door.

“Thank you so much!” I turned around to find Lou standing right in front of me pulling me closer by the waist drawing me into a kiss, his right hand venturing up my back, with his fingers following the pattern of the fabric, occasionally touching my skin giving me goose bumps all over. Mum and the rest of my family were in the kitchen eating pizza for dinner, filling the house with the smell of mozzarella and ham. “Where are we going?” I asked grabbing my coat off the bench, intertwining my fingers with his.

“That’s for me to know and for you to find out.” He pulled me out into the kitchen to say goodbye to my family, kissing each one before leaving.

“You look beautiful, will you be coming back here or to Lou’s tonight?” Mum asked before taking a teasing bite of the pizza, with the cheese leaving a trail between her mouth and the pizza.

“She’s coming back to mine, I can drop her off tomorrow morning if you want her back?” Lou asked looking like he was about to steal a piece of Pizza to go.

“We’re going to see her Aunty because it’s her birthday, do you want to come Lou?” Lou always came to these sorts of things, as long as he wasn’t working.

“What time?”

“2 till 6ish?”

“I finish work at four, so I’ll come by then?”

“Awesome! We can play footy?” Abbey asked excited. Lou linked his fingers with mine and pulled me towards the door.

Before saying “Of course!” and almost tripping through the door on the way through, he was so excited. He pulled off his tie when we got in the car and tied it around my face so I couldn’t see anything. “Big, big surprise!” He said squeezing my fingers in his, kissing me on the hand. I wonder where we could possibly be going… Somewhere special I guess if Lou actually bothered to wear a suit. I remember the only other time I saw him in a suit was at year 12 formal, no one asked me so he asked me to the formal, and we went together, we had massive fun, I can still remember our first kiss.

We were standing under the lights, dancing to the slow song, talking about which couples were fake or real. Beth and John, fake, Ellie and Tom, real, honestly the cutest couple out. We were joking around about how John was an in-the-closet gay when we locked eyes, smiling at each other, then he leaned in and kissed me, pressing his warm lips against mine pulling me closer. After about 4 long seconds, he pulled away and apologised, going red in the face, I just smiled and put my head on his shoulder and closing my eyes, listening to the music.

“We’re there!” Lou said squeezing my hand and leaving the car, gently closing it behind him. He finally opened my door after what seemed like minutes, and my hand found his, leading me into some sort of room, giving me step by step instructions. Taking off the tie, he said “Open your eyes.”
