Chapter Twenty-eight: We have got a problem

I could feel the bed was wet, and it took me a while to realise that my waters had just broken. “Boo...” Lou moaned and turned away from me.  “Boo, the baby’s coming.” I said rocking him to wake him up.

“The baby is what?” Lou moaned rubbing his eyes.

“Coming.” I almost shouted, rolling out of our bed onto my swollen feet. Lou jumped out of bed, quicker than I had ever seen him move, ever.

“What do you want me to do?” I looked over at the clock, it was two am.

“Call your mum, and ask for their advice, I mean, I don’t want to go to the hospital and just wait there for hours, minimum time possible!”

“Hello, Mum? Yes, her waters broke.

Uh, do you feel any pain sweet heart?”

“None at all...”

“Nope. Okay, thank you.” He hung up. “Mum says just wait around until your contractions are about a minute apart, and we should time them and write them down.” He helped me out of my pyjamas and into some new dry clothes to wear to the hospital.

“That’s better.” Lou helped me over to the bathroom to brush my hair and tidy myself up a little bit.

“So you don’t feel any pain at all?” Lou asked, looking me over.

“None, well apart from the aching feet, back and ribs, none!” I said sarcastically waddling my way downstairs with Lou at my arm, making sure I don’t fall. He helped me sit on the couch before running back upstairs to grab my bags, and pen and paper. I could tell he was panicking but trying to keep a straight face for me. “You a little worried sweet heart?” I asked switching on the TV.

“You’re switching on the TV?!” He exclaimed pointing at the TV making the disappointed face he makes when I do something he considers “Naughty”.

“Haha, yeah, it could be hours!” I laughed, trying to look natural, because I’m shitting myself for when the real pain comes.  An hour or so passed and nothing happened, we were beginning to get worried so Lou called up the hospital again to ask if it could have been a false alarm.

“Is this normal? Are they going to be okay?...” Right then I felt a splitting pain, and I knew it was the start of my contractions. I screamed in pain, I swear it lasted for forever, but Lou said it was only 30 seconds. Hopefully it’s just a quick labour and everything runs smoothly. Here’s another one, the pain was just as bad. “Here’s another one, mum, should they be this close together?....” He hung up turning to me. “Okay, sweet heart, don’t panic, mum will be here in a few minutes.” Here’s yet another, the pain is horrible, maybe it is a good thing this is the only child we could have. Lou was sitting next to me, holding my hand, well... I was squishing his.

“Boo! We have a problem! I can feel it coming!”

“You know, you really should have said yes when they asked if you wanted to know whether it was a boy or a girl, calling it ‘it’ doesn’t sound very nice.” He acted all superior.

“Now’s not the time to be a smart ass Louis.” I screamed, squeezing his hand even tighter. “Help me out of these pants! Get a towel! The baby is coming!” I screamed, trying to kick off my pants, with Lou’s help.  He was being a massive help, getting towels, helping me with everything. He helped me lower myself onto the towel before another contraction, and I could feel myself starting to push.

“Mum’s almost here.” Lou squeezed my hand lightly, forcing a smile.

“Thank God!”

“I’m here!” I heard Lou’s mum, and mine, walking through the door, great, a whole party! I thought before the next contraction. Jo coached me through the whole thing, until....

“One more push sweetie” I heard Jo say, and with one last excruciating push, came the sweet relief, and the cry of a new born. “What a beautiful baby girl.” Jo said wrapping her in one of the new blankets we bought for her, and handing her to me, for Lou and I to look at our beautiful, miracle, baby girl. For that moment, it was just Lou, me and the baby, no one else, and the world was perfect.

“Wow, she’s just as beautiful as you.” Lou said giving us both a light peck. “She’s so tiny!” Lou put his, what looked like giant finger in her hands, which wrapped around his finger so delicately. She was so cute, and quiet, our beautiful little girl.

“What are you going to call her?” Our mums were sitting either side now, admiring our artwork.

“Audrie.” Lou and I both said at the same time.

“Audrie Paige Tomlinson.” Lou smiled, I could see a tear forming in his eye, he was so happy. I couldn’t ask for anything more than to make my Boo happy.

“Beautiful.” Mum said smiling. “Here’s the ambulance to take you to the hospital.”

Lou and I were alone in our hospital room, sitting on our bed, admiring our beautiful baby girl, when Harry and Britt came in to say hello.

“Oh my God!” Britt whispered coming over to get a closer look. “She’s the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.” She smiled stroking Audrie’s hand.

“Meet Aunty Britt.” Lou whispered, smiling still. I never want this moment to end. Now it was Harry’s turn, he knelt next to us on the bed, looking at our beautiful baby, smiling his cute smile.

“Hey Audrie, you’re so beautiful, and don’t let any guy take advantage of you or tell you differently, and if they do, come to Uncle Hazza, he’ll always be here to protect you.”

“We all will.” Liam said as the rest of them piled in. Meg was holding her gorgeous little eight month old Elijah, we’d already planned all our play dates, and how they were going to be best friends.  Everyone took turns holding baby Audrie, and she just smiled the whole time, making occasional sounds, which were so adorable.

The boys all went outside and were joking around, I could just imagine all the things we could do together. Britt and Meg were out getting Coffees for everyone and baby Elijah was with the boys, of course. Harry said he was a guy and shouldn’t have to be with girls all the time, but I didn’t mind just spending time with me and my beautiful girl. Her hair is a dark, beautiful brown, and her eyes a dark blue, her skin has a natural tan, her nose is small, and cute, her lips full and red, all the girls are going to be jealous of our little angel.  Lou and I gave her a bath when we got here, and she smells like all babies do.

“You have the most amazing family, you will be the most perfect little girl, you will always have people to turn to when you’re upset, no boys will dare hurt you, because your daddy is from One Direction, you will have so many opportunities. Don’t ever let anyone tell you you’re not beautiful, because you’re so beautiful.” I whispered to her, stroking her hand lightly, before Britt and Meg came back with the coffees, bringing the portable cradle thing to the side of the bed so I could put Audrie in it and rolled it back, so I could have a nice coffee at seven in the morning.

Life couldn’t be more perfect.
