Wrong Decisions to Right Paths

Chapter 5

Well this is not good. How can I sleep so late. I hurriedly took bath. My bad that I cannot even take a peaceful shower. My engagement is scheduled for five pm and it’s already twelve now. I came out with only towel around me. No one was least interested in looking at me. My sister gave me the dress and asked me to wear it fast and come. My beautician started arranging other things. The things were happening so fast that I was not able to think anything.

It took me almost three hours to get ready. And when I looked myself in the mirror I felt for the first time that I am also beautiful. Well I know with such a beautiful dress and make up anyone would look beautiful.

I was wearing a purple lehenga with white pearls. My hairs were opened and curled at the ends. My mom bought me a pearl set with earrings. Also bangles made with pearls. Everything seemed so nice and perfect. Now I was waiting in my room alone.

My mom and my sister were arranging everything in the car and we had to leave for Arjun’s house. Yes, engagement was in his house. Somewhere I was feeling uneasy to go to his house before marriage but that was Arjun’s decision.

We reached his house. The driveway was not very long but circular with a fountain in the middle. Gardens on either side of the house. We came inside, the house was pretty big when compared to our house. The house was fully decorated with purple orchids. With white and purple balloons and ribbons. Everything was matched to my dress. It was a pleasant surprise that no one else from the guests were wearing purple. It was like next to perfect. I was made to sit on a big sofa in the center. Everything was so beautiful that I could not stop myself from smiling.

“ Your smile is very beautiful. You should always keep smiling.” Arjun said.

I did not realize when he came and sat beside me. I started to sweat now. He was wearing a white blazer with a purple tie. I thought to myself the color was already decided. In a time of three days everything was arranged so nicely. I am happy.

“ I realized that you don’t like talking much.” He said bringing me out of my thoughts.

I could not reply anything. His presence was making me nervous. I just nodded to him and turned my face to the other side to avoid his gaze.

“ For how long will you be able to ignore me?” He started to tease me.

His mom came to me which was a relieve to me. She admired my beauty. She is a nice woman with a polite smile and sweet gestures. She showed me the engagement ring and asked me if I like it? And I just nodded. I think my voice is left at home. Then the engagement ceremony started. Everyone gathered around us.

Arjun took my hand. His hold was strong yet firm. I felt that he will not leave my hand now the way he was holding my hand and looking at me. And slowly he slipped the ring onto my finger. It was a beautiful diamond ring with two hearts on the side. And he gave his hand and I made sure that I don’t touch him so I just slipped the ring with my two fingers onto his finger. Everyone started clapping. I turned away from him being nervous and shy.
