He walked back to Odette's house, throwing his jacket into the trash to hide the blood stains before opening the door slowly. "Odi?" He called but nobody answered. He walked up to her room and knocked quietly before opening the door. "Odi?" He whispered.
At first he couldn't see her, but eventually he found her sitting under her desk in the corner of the room. "What are you doing down there?" He laughed as he crouched down next to her.
"Hiding myself, like you told me to." she replied, looking up and sticking her tongue out at him. He laughed again and she looked down. "Did you find who you were looking for?"
"Yes." He pulled her into his arms. "Do not worry about it." He whispered, brushing her hair back. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine, I guess." She looked up and smiled. "Hungry. All I've had is coffee and it's past noon already."
"Stay here. I will get you some food." He put his head up slowly and listened to the sound of a car motor. "Actually, your mom just left so there is nobody here. Come on." He got up, holding his hands out for her. "What would you like to eat?" He asked quietly.
She thought for a moment as he pulled her up, then said firmly, "Waffles."
"Waffles it is." He walked downstairs with her. The kitchen was off to the right from the staircase. It was small but worked. He opened the door to the fridge and grabbed some eggs, milk and butter. He grabbed flour sugar and everything else he needed. He began mixing it all together and motioned for her to sit down.
He dug out the waffle maker and plugged it in, letting it warm up. "How are you feeling? Headache or anything? Do you need some aspirin?"
"No, not really. The headache went away shortly after you left." She sat down on a tall chair at the counter that divided the kitchen and living room and swung her legs. "I'll be even better once I eat some of those fresh made waffles."
He flipped the waffle maker over and placed the waffles on the plate, walking over to her and handing them to her. "Do you want something to drink?" He asked as he walked back to the stove. He filled the waffle maker up with more batter and grabbed the maple syrup, throwing it on the counter next to her. The coffee pot went off and he poured them both a cup.
"Just the coffee is fine." She smiled, digging into the hot waffles. "Thank you Jasper."
He sat down next to her and flipped the TV on. He scrolled through some channels until he found an old murder mystery show. "Good enough." He said quietly and dug into his own waffles. Being a vampire, he had to constantly tell himself that even though he couldn't taste food, what he was eating was still good. The waffles tasted bland, just like everything did after he fed. He finished just before she did and looked over at her.
"Do you want more?" He took a swig of his coffee, the dark liquid warming his throat.
"No, I'm full. Two was plenty for me right now." She stood up and took his dishes, going to the sink to start washing them.
"Odi!" He called. "Don't overwork yourself."
"I'm not going to overwork myself doing dishes."
He picked up the remote and began going through channels. He knew how much she hated when he watched sports so he flipped past that quickly. "Hey, do you want to do something today?" He turned around on the couch to look back at her.
She walked over to him and dropped the damp dish towel on his face. "I don't know. If the weather is nice we could go to the lake out in the country? My grandmother still has a boat, so we could go for a ride on the water?"
