The smell of coffee woke Jasper from his nightmares. Lestat must be up, he thought, stretching slightly and feeling his joints pop. He glanced over at Odette who was still asleep. He got up and walked over to the bed, pulling the covers up over her.
He left the room and made his way to the kitchen. He knew this house like the back of his hand. He turned to the right and swung the door open. Lestat had redone the kitchen it seemed. Cabinets lined three of the four walls, a black fridge, stove and dishwasher looked untouched. The counter tops were granite and the floors were marble. Just past this was a large dining room with a crystal chandelier. Lestat was sitting at a maple wood table, a coffee in one hand and a newspaper in the other. Jasper grabbed a cup, poured himself some coffee and sat down across from him.
"Oh, Jasper. Nice of you to drop by." He said blandly, not lifting his eyes from the paper.
"Lestat, I need your help." He said as he took a long sip of his coffee.
"Calm down boy, she has time." He flipped the newspaper over. After making a face he set it down and looked at Jasper. Jasper still couldn't get over how young Lestat looked. He had shoulder length dark brown hair that was swimming with curls. His eyes were a golden hazel and his skin was pale, like all vampires, but not quite as pale as Odette. Lestat was breathtaking, but he was also a vampire. An Elder vampire at that.
"Yes, Lestat." He grumbled and took another sip of his coffee, reaching over and plucking the paper from in front of him.
"Go wake her up so we may talk." And with that he was gone. Jasper let out a sigh, trying to contain his anger.
"Yes, Lestat." He made his way back to the room and opened the door slowly, looking over at the empty bed. "Odette?" He called out, "Where are you? Oh, this isn't good..."
He went back out into the hallway and heightened his senses, hoping to figure out where she had gone. He ran down a few hallways and tried checking some rooms, but still couldn't find her. As he passed the door to the kitchen he heard glass shatter inside. Opening the door, he found Odette looking through everything. Cabinets had been thrown open, coffee spilled on the counter and glasses lay shattered on the floor, as well as torn food packages.
"Odi! What are you doing? You've made such a mess." She turned to him, her eyes glazed over, and stared at him. "Odette?"
She stepped toward him and he realized what she was after just as she leaped. She was fast, but Jasper was much faster. He caught her and turned her around so she was facing away from him, her arms behind her back. She thrashed in his grip, trying to turn around. She kept tilting her head back, looking up at him and snarling. Her canine teeth had grown slightly and were poking out.
"Odette, wake up." He ordered impatiently. "Come on. This is not the time for this. Snap out of it!"
A flash filled the room and Jasper closed his eyes, shielding them from the brightness. When he opened them again Lestat was sitting at the table with Odette next to him, happily tearing into a raw steak.
"It's an animal. Just give it meat." Lestat smiled up at Jasper.
"This is no time for your jokes. Can't you see the problems with this?" Lestat looked to Odette then back to Jasper.
"You already know what happens to young vampires when they turn. And she is different. Are you sure you want to put her through that?" Jasper thought for a moment, remembering the room he had been locked up in. How he had been caged like an animal. He wouldn't put her through that if he didn't have to. Though he knew there were no other choices possible.
