Odette woke up the next morning and sat up. Jasper was sound asleep so she kissed his forehead, got up and left the room yawning. Her stomach growled so she made her way silently down to the kitchen.

"Shall I fix you something?" Luke walked out from the parlor and into the kitchen. "What are you hungry for? Something bloody or something more to human taste?" He put his hands behind his back. He was wearing a butler sort of outfit. Black slacks, a white dress shirt and a black vest.

"Oh, um..." She remembered back to what Jasper had said about being alone with Luke and now here he was, alone with her in the kitchen. He seemed so nice though, how could he be bad. Besides, he worked for Lestat, so he had to be okay. Jasper was probably just being paranoid.

"I don't know." She leaned back against the counter, "What do you recommend?"

"Depends what you feel like." He smiled and walked over to the fridge. He hummed a couple of notes and peeked around the door at her. "Eggs and bacon?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Sure." She smiled back and looked around to find a frying pan. "That sounds good to me. Would you like help?"

"Oh no, do not worry." He smiled and cracked the eggs into the frying pan and placed the bacon around them. They began to sizzle as they cooked.

Odette stood back, watching him cook before she went into the dining room and sat down at the table to wait. Luke came out with a large plate of food and placed it in front of her. He poured some orange juice into a glass and put it next to the plate.

"Enjoy." He smiled and disappeared.

"Thank you!" She called as she took a bite. Her stomach grumbled louder and she dug into the meal. When she was done, she sat back, relaxed and sipping the orange juice. Jasper walked out and rubbed his eyes. His hair was a mess and he stopped when he looked at her sitting at the table.

"Did you make that or did he? What did I tell you, Odi?" He grumbled and grabbed a mug from the cabinet. He poured himself some black coffee and drank the whole thing down quickly.

"What?" She brought her dishes to the sink and washed them. "It was just breakfast. It didn't taste weird or anything." She turned and looked at him. "Didn't sleep well?"

He grabbed another mug of coffee and drank it quickly. "I slept fine, I just like coffee." He muttered, causing her to giggle. Stretching he wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close. "Just be careful, Odi." He whispered.

The loud noise of someone knocking on the door interrupted him. He grumbled and opened his mouth to call for Luke but the man suddenly appeared in front of him.

"Sir, Master Lestat is here." Luke bowed to Jasper. "He is visiting to see how you are holding up."

"Oh, thank you." He replied, putting his mug down on the counter.

"He also said he would like to talk with you and Odette. He is in the sitting room." He bowed again and left. Jasper grumbled something under his breath before making his way to the sitting room, Odette following behind.

"Jasper!" Lestat called and pulled him into a tight embrace. "Who is that utter fool who opened the door?! I told you just you and Odette." He hissed into his ear.

"He said he was your butler." Jasper responded and looked around the room. Odette was gone and a bad feeling sank into his bones.

"Ngh..." Odette turned around painfully and opened her eyes. She didn't know how she got where she was, but nothing could be distinguished from anything else. Just darkness.
