Odette busied herself by wandering around the room. She picked through the books, recognizing not a single title, before picking out one that seemed relatively interesting and placed it on the couch. Thinking about reading it, she realized she had never heard the door lock. Creeping toward the door she opened it and peeked down the empty hallway. There was an eerie silence in the old building, and even though a part of her nagged at her to try to escape, another part of her was telling her it would be wiser to stay put for once.

"Urgh..." She grumbled to herself and closed the door again before plopping down on the faded, musty couch. Picking up the thin book, something that started off like an essay about wolves and their effects on farmers, she sighed and started skimming through the pages. As she read she found out that it actually turned into a mystery fiction book.

She had been finishing the surprisingly interesting book and was so engrossed in the last couple pages, she didn't notice that someone else had entered the room.

"This is her?" The woman asked quietly, breaking Odette's concentration and startling her. The woman had long blonde hair with the tips dyed bright red. Her blue eyes were lined with eyeliner, making them pop and her lips were painted to match the color of her tips. She was wearing a pair of plain jeans and a long sleeve black shirt. Her voice was enchanting though.

"Hello, Odette. My name is..." She looked over at Luke and then back to Odette. "You may call me Ma'am. Luke and I are here to help you." She slowly made her way over and sat down on the couch next to Odette.

"Hi." Odette replied softly as she looked over at Luke who stood in the doorway, then back at the woman. "Why? What do I need help with?"

"Your transformation. We are here to give you a few chances to change. To figure out if you want to be a vampire or a human. You have been taken because you had too many distractions where you were, too many things to keep you from seeing your potential."

"My... potential? Distractions?" She didn't know what was going on, though she didn't feel threatened just yet. Still, she kept her voice low and stared at the floor. "I don't know what you are talking about, but I've already decided what I'm doing."

"And what is it that you have decided?" The woman looked over at Luke and gave him a glare. "I was not informed of this." She muttered.

Odette noticed this small change in her tone but ignored it. Now she had both people staring at her, awaiting an answer and it made her nervous. "Um, I... I was going to stay a vampire."

"And why were you going to do that? What are your opinions on it?" She whispered and leaned back on the couch.

"My opinions?" Odette thought for a moment. Why did she want to stay a vampire? She had discussed this with Jasper on their way to Nevada. "Well..." She looked down at her hands that twisted in her lap. "I didn't have a whole lot going for me as a human. And... at first I would've given anything to go back to my normal human life. Though... now I feel like I would prefer to stay as I am. It's still taking a lot to get used to, but I'm willing to work at it for Jasper." Her voice went even quieter as she slouched down. She didn't know why she said all of that.

The woman raised an eyebrow at her answer. "Jasper? And what if he was taken out of the equation? What if you had the chance to start your human life anew? Make new friends, go to college?" She crossed one leg over the other and leaned against the armrest of the chair. A bright tattoo showed on her arm as her sleeve lifted.

"I don't know." She looked up at the woman before quickly shifting her gaze back down to the floor. "We already talked about this and... I really liked my past. I miss things that I used to be able to do, but this is a whole new experience. Honestly, I can't see myself without him since we have been friends since I was much younger."
