It had just turned to two in the morning when Odette got up from bed and went downstairs. She crept passed Jasper who was fast asleep on the couch and went out the front door. In a complete daze she stumbled down the road before turning down some side streets.
"Welcome back." A strangely familiar voice sounded near her. The man that haunted her dreams stepped out from the shadows, a grin upon his face. "I knew you would be back. Though it took longer than I thought it would."
Odette did nothing but stand there, completely unresponsive as she stared ahead. "I also see the mind control is working perfectly." The man laughed, brushing some hair from her face. "Come this way."
She followed him through a door and into a dimly lit room. Candles throughout revealed a large table surrounded by at least twenty men and women of different ages. All were pale with severe expressions and wore different clothes from varying time periods.
"Is this the girl, Harland?"
"Yes, she is." He stepped to the side, pulling Odette beside him and sitting her in an empty chair. They commenced to have a meeting, talking about where she was in the transformation stage and when they thought she would finally be complete.
"The virus I created is affecting her just as I hoped it would. She is slowly turning which means she will have faster healing like any vampire and her ability to be out in the sun will dwindle. However, she will be able to continue eating food without getting sick. Remember though, the main thing to strengthen the process is she must ingest vampire blood." Harland grinned over the group, obviously head of this specific clan. He turned to the girl. "Are you ready to become one of us?"
She only stared forward and he laughed. "We will take that as a yes." He turned back to the group. "Because I must arrange a few things, the official ceremony will take place at midnight. Everyone is to meet here before this time. You are dismissed." He bowed to the group, who all bowed or curtsied in return, and took Odette back out to the street, walking down a few streets from the hideout. He kept his hand on her arm much longer than necessary.
--**----**----**--
Jasper's eyes flickered open in sudden alarm. Something wasn't right. "Oh no." He jumped off the couch and ran out the door. Closing the door quietly behind him, he took off down the street in a tank top and shorts.
He skidded to a stop and listened as he heard the clan of vampires talking.
"She will be ready at midnight. Fresh blood for the clan." He heard a woman speak.
"You better hope that Jasper doesn't figure out!" Another woman spoke, causing both women to begin laughing. He felt his anger well up, but they couldn't know that he was onto them. He dug his hands in his pockets and pulled a cigarette from his back pocket. He lit it and blew a long stream of smoke as he began walking away from where they were. Normally he didn't smoke, but sometimes on the rare occasion he did. Not that he had to worry about health problems or anything.
Being a vampire has it's perks. You know the town backwards and forwards. He knew where to go to be alone, he knew where to go if he needed company. He debated between the two quickly before figuring out that he couldn't stop the ceremony. If she chose willingly there was nothing he could do. And he knew that Harland would be using mind control on her to make her agree to it. He took another drag of the cigarette and groaned, turning down a lonely road.
As he did he saw two figures in the shadows. Thanks to both his heightened sense of smell and sight, he was able to tell that one was a man he hated, and the other was Odette.
