Venus Cavannaugh.

It was raining that evening, I was hurrying to get to my daughter's school to pick her up as the thundering breeze immensely blew away my umbrella to bits.

F*ck sakes, I cursed inwardly.

Instinctively, I began to ran. Pushing myself further and further, the rain began blinding me as I spotted Marie's school up front.

Blindly, I raced to cross to road unaware of the incoming car that sped across the road. As if in slow motion, I turned as saw as it shot into me. I could hear the cracking and crushing of my bones due to the impact from the hit as I fell to the floor gazing towards the skies waiting for my life to leave my body.

Within the distance , I thought of my six year old daughter waiting patiently for her mother to come pick her up and go home
for hot chocolate.

I felt the need to close my eyes as they suddenly felt heavy, I turned and saw foot steps rapidly coming my way as that voice kept repeating the same words over and over again before I blacked out.

Hold on, hold on.

* * * * * * *

I was awoken by a constant beeping sound coming from my side, I willed myself to open my eyes in order to study my surroundings.

'Ah the hospital,' I thought.

Suddenly the door opened and a fine specimen of male came in. He was somewhat surprised to find my eyes opened.

"Are you alright? Should I get the doctor?". He asked looking sincerely concerned.

I blinked and eyed the stranger. As I opened my mouth to speak I began to cough due to the hoarseness of my throat.

"Don't stress yourself too much, I'll go get the doctor". He concluded before turning to leave.

Feeling alarmed, I beckoned for him.

"Wait, don't leave"

He turned slowly and strode across the room to my side. Consciously, I tried to move to the other side but felt pain shoot through my rib cages.

"Careful, you broke a few bones there. Let me help you adjust". He said as he closely wrapped his arms around my waist cautiously and adjusted me.

A sudden thought ran through my head as I muttered unconsciously,

"Marie".

"Oh the little girl she's alright", he said in recognition.

"How did she get here?"

"Umm her aunt brings her here everyday to see you ". He responded.

'Aunt?' I thought.

"I think her name is 'Mara?' ". He said confusedly.

"Oh Zara". I said feeling relieved.

"Yeah so how are you feeling?". He asked.

Just then the door opened, and in came my best friend, Zara with my daughter and a doctor.

"Mommy", Marie screamed before rushing to throw her arms around me for a hug.

Despite the pains I felt, I still hugged her back painfully tight.

"Oh my baby, I missed you". I said happily.

"I missed you too mummy"she replied.

Then the doctor spoke,
"Mrs Cavannaugh, how are you feeling?". He asked.

"Sore".

"Well its a miracle that you're still alive after having broken three left rib with two severely fractured at your right and a ruptured diaphragm with cuts and bruises I'd say you're lucky". He said.

"Wow". I said astonished. "Never had I ever broken much bones".

"Yeah". Zara piped in staring angrily in the direction of the stranger who seemed to be rubbing his neck nervously.

"Is there anything I'm missing here?". I asked feeling lost.

"He...". She started before she was interrupted.

"I'll tell her myself". He said before turning to me. "I'm the one responsible for the accident ,it was my car that you collided with". He said nervously.

I was lost for words until I realised that it was also my fault as well, if I hadn't been looking where I was going I would have avoided the collision.

"Its alright I'm to blame as well, I was just too concerned on reaching Marie's school that I failed to see where I'm going". I confessed.

"No its my fault". He said.

"No its m....". I said before Zara interjected.

"Its everyone's fault okay?". She shouted angrily.

"Well I paid the bills already. It's the least I could do" he said.

"But you didn't have to". I frowned.

"He must after all he has done already". Zara scoffed.

"Zara!". I cautioned knowing fully well what she can do when she gets angry.

"I better get going I've got things to do bye". And with that he left the room and I turned and glared at Zara who seemed to gaze anywhere but my face with a satisfied smirk on her lips.

"At least he was gentlemanly enough ". I cleared.

I turned satisfactorily looking at my daughter with the thought of the handsome stranger lingering in mind with the hope of seeing him again.
