Jamie recovered after a night of crying and watching Notting Hill over and over again. She loved her job and avoided the coffee shop where she saw Brooke. She takes the same route to work everyday, getting of union station and riding the streetcar, getting off at-
"Oof sorry about that"
"No, my bad."
"... Jamie is that you?" Brooke says with showering disbelief.
"Yeah hi how are you doing?" Jamie replies, brushing it off with a clear disinterest.
"Yeah um I'm good. How about you? Do you get off at this stop or?" Brooke asks with hope that Jamie can stay.
Jamie knows she should leave but she says "No... I'm near the port, still a long way to go" giving out a slight chuckle.
"Wow okay good... Do you wanna talk?" Brooke asks, motioning to the empty seats.
"Yeah definitely" Jamie says, walking over to a chair. "So how are you doing? What are you doing?"
"Wow" Brooke says giving out a large breath. "It's so amazing seeing you here. Five years, wow... I'm really glad you're back here." Brooke says hugging Jamie.
Jamie sits there, not making a move. She takes Brooke off of her body, "so how are you doing?"
"Oh well, I passed university." Brooke replies, laughing. "Umm.. I was a travel journalist until about a year ago, I came back to Toronto. Now I'm a local journalist."
"Wow! That's amazing. How is-"
Brooke cuts Jamie off, "but enough about me, how was British Columbia? Lawyering?"
Jamie smiles, "well it's really good. I work at a firm now. British Columbia was great, but lonely."
"Yeah..." Brooke replies as memories make her awkward.
"But its all cool I know we had to go our own ways and-" Jamie says trying to break the tension but ease into the peering topic.
"I missed you." Brooke whispers, letting out a breath. "I miss you and I just need to know where we stand, you know about... us"
Jamie pauses and slowly says, "I don't know what you want me to say. We bump in and you expect us to just go back. It's been 5 years."
"Well do you have anyone significant?" Brooke asks in curiosity.
"No" Jamie replies. "But you do."
"What are you taking about?" Brooke questions.
"I mean that I saw the good looking dude you were with in the coffee shop." Jamie says with a higher volume.
"Are you saying you were jealous?" Brooke asks with a playful tone.
"I'm serious. You have a man. I don't wanna get into all that." Jamie replies.
"That my dad. You know, the one from prison. He got out like 4 years ago." Brooke explains.
"Ohhhh. That makes more sense." Jamie says.
"So about us-"
"There can't be. I just don't think it can be like that anymore." Jamie says while clasping onto something around her neck.
"Is that why you kept the necklace?" Brooke questions Jamie.
"It doesn't mean anything. We can't-"
"Can't what? Be in love, like we were five years ago? Be happy we had each other, holding each other" Brooke says while taking Jamie's hand.
"You chose to drive me away. I wanted to stay and you pushed me away." Jamie says quietly, pulling away from Brooke's hands, holding back tears.
"I pushed you to your dreams. What you want-"
Jamie shakes her head, sobbing "But I wanted you. Not a scholarship, not anyone or anything else. You"
Brooke takes Jamie's hands, saying, "I'm sorry. I gave you what you couldn't pass up. But I'm here now. I love you now, like I have for five years and all the years before that." Brooke takes the necklace from Jamie's neck, crying, "look what it says here. In my dreams, because I always will believe in you and your dreams. You are my dream Jamie. You have been and always will be my dream."
Jamie's tears fall as she takes Brooke and kisses her. They get off at the stop near the park and take a walk. They hold each other, and love each other. Living a dream in reality.
