Jamie picks up her ringing phone, saying, "Hey! Happy birthday."
Harper answers full of suppressed content and joy, "I'm so sorry, Cam just proposed to me and we are going to have to cancel the birthday dinner thing. But if you still feel like going out, I didn't cancel the reservations at Palazini's yet."
Jamie looks towards Brooke, mouthing words and actions to explain the situation. Brooke tells Jamie to ask Harper "is Caleb also going?"
"No, Harper replies. We told him, but he doesn't want to go out. So it would be only you guys."
Jamie shakes her head, answering Brooke's question. Brooke smiles and motions a thumbs up enthusiastically.
"Okay. Sure, we'll go to the reservation. What time?" Replies Jamie
"6pm. Don't be late. They fill up quickly" Harper advises.
Jamie continues to put on her evening dress, the dark velvet cloth brought out the colour of her skin and meshed with her eyes. It flowed about as Jamie walked over to Brooke.
"Hey, can you help me with the zipper, I think it's like stuck or something." Jamie says, turning away from Brooke and tugging on the zipper.
Brooke looks at Jamie's back and her breaths become suspended. She peeks over Jamie's neck and sees the low dip on the dress. Her mind pauses. But suddenly she regains consciousness and zips it up, saying "yeah it's done."
Jamie turns around and does Brooke's zipper. She asks "do you wanna drive, or take an Uber there? I don't know what we might do so."
"To be safe let's just take an Uber then." Replies Brooke.
They reach the restaurant. The golden doors spring wide open as the people in front of them enter the building. Jamie and Brooke walk into the room filled with star-like chandeliers and rectangular tables as the chaperone leads them to an empty table near the back of the restaurant. Jamie and Brooke take a seat at their table and look at the menu. A few minutes pass and Brooke starts to look uneasy. The paleness of her face started to show as she finished all of her water in a matter of minutes.
"Hey, are you okay?" Asks Jamie, noticing Brooke uncomfortable and pale.
Brooke looks around the room trying to hold back her thoughts.
Het mind gave way, she takes a quick breath and says "do you really not remember?"
Jamie's face contracts, as she asks "remember what, exactly?"
Brooke scoffs and looks away, saying, "Wow, so you actually don't remember."
"Look, you've been acting really weird since my birthday. You keep on asking if I remember something. If you want me to know so much, why don't you just tell me what happened. Because I don't remember, seriously, I don't." Jamie says loudly, making her statement clear.
Brooke looks at Jamie's expression, trying to read her. Then Brooke realizes that Jamie actually doesn't remember about the kiss and how she would have to keep her feelings hidden.
"It's fine. It doesn't matter if you don't remember anyways. Just forget about it." Brooke mumbles quickly through her words, as her tears start to wave over.
Brooke and Jamie continue on their dinner. The atmosphere became dim, the conversation grew bland, and the awkwardness grew true as not one word was spoken.
As soon as both finished their dinner, Brooke calls for the check. She pays, gets up, and exits the restaurant. Jamie catches up, confused about Brooke's awkward behaviour.
She grabs Brooke's arm as they walk onto the sidewalk, asking, "hey, what's wrong? You've been distant lately. Did I do something? What happened?"
"Nothing, you did absolutely nothing" Brooke replies coldly as she looks away, tapping on her phone.
"I'm getting an Uber, you coming?" Brooke asks in a monotone voice.
Jamie nods in agreement as she starts to investigate in her mind what she had forgotten. The Uber comes, both enter, sitting down. Jamie continues to think deeply, knowing that what she had forgotten must have meant something to Brooke. After minutes to tracing back time, she is left with no hope of the memory she had forgotten. Jamie lays back head down on head rest and looks at Brooke. Brooke looks at the window towards the warm glow of the moon, avoiding eye contact with Jamie. Suddenly, Jamie's mind starts to unravel for she had seen this glow on Brooke before. The glow that made Brooke's eyes sparkle. Jamie remembered the morning after the party. She remembered how insanely beautiful looked. She remembered what she felt when she saw Brooke. She remembered what her heart sung. And she whispers under her breath "I remember". As she remembers the kiss, the kiss, the kiss.
