My heart skipped a beat as soon as my school came into view. Heaving a sigh, I mentally prepared myself for the day. Since it was my first day at a new school, I was nervous as heck.
"Seoul International Institute" the automated public transit voice announced.
I got up from my seat on the bus and slowly stepped out onto the campus of Seoul International Institute. The view was breathtaking. There were tall buildings that seemed to have an endless amount of floors, and Victorian style architecture. The school had a castle-like vibe yet managed to look modern at the same time. Feeling slightly dizzy from the bus ride, I mentally cursed myself for deciding to stay at my aunt's house for a few days instead of moving into my new apartment immediately.
I headed towards the big arching doors, excited to see the inside of the school. As I stepped in, I thought about all the hype about this school. It was ranked one of the highest in academics, included one of the best arts programs, and was considered one of the most elite and prestigious schools in the world. It's located in Seoul, Korea, and students from all over the world compete to attend it. After a vigorous exam process, I was finally accepted. I moved from my cozy home in Canada to Seoul, ready to start my new academic life. The hallways sparkled with shiny lockers, polished floors, and bulletin boards full of information on clubs and courses. My eyes scanned the hallway until I saw a sign pointing in the direction of the auditorium, where all the students are to meet before homeroom class. As I walked in that direction I noticed other students that were in the hallway. Since I moved, the only human interaction I had was with my aunt. I know, its sad. I haven't had the chance to socialize and actually make any friends.
As I stood in front of the auditorium entrance, I took a deep breath to calm down the butterflies in my stomach. Just as I reached out towards the door handle, I was shoved to the side by a girl rushing to get through the door.
"Can you be any slower?" the girl said sharply as she rolled her eyes. She looked like she just came back from a photoshoot. She had jet black hair up to her shoulders, and brown almond shaped eyes. Her lips were painted bright red and her eyeliner was so sharp it could cut someone. With a flip of her hair, she pushed past me into the large room.
Great. It's only been 10 minutes and I've already managed to piss someone off.
I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed by how packed it already was. My eyes scanned the crowd, looking for an empty seat. As soon as I saw one, I raced over and sat down. The girl beside turned to me with a smile
"Oh my god, I've never seen you before, are you new here?
"yeah, it's my first year..." I replied.
"Well, it's nice to see a new face. I'm Jennie, what's your name?"
"I'm Calypso" I smiled
"Wow, that's a unique name! I wish my parents were more creative when naming me" Jennie formed a cute pout.
I smiled, feeling a bit more optimistic about my social life at this school.
The principal walked up to the mic on stage, tapping it a couple of times.
"May I have your attention please. I'd like to welcome all returning and new students to our school. You are here because you are the best of the best. At this school we nourish the talents you all have, and provide an environment crafted to enhance your abilities."The principal droned on about the school and courses, all that boring stuff. I started to zone out and observe the rest of the students. I was trying to identify the stereotypical high school cliques that are seen in movies. I noticed that the students came from all over the world.
Then I noticed a group of boys talking near the back, which I'm guessing were the popular kids. They looked stunning. One of the boys caught my attention, he had dark brown hair, perfect facial structure with a strong jawline and deep brown eyes. He was damn attractive. I wasn't surprised to see the girl I met earlier at the auditorium door sitting beside him with her hand wrapped around his bicep, seeking his attention. He lazily turned his gaze to her, and detached her arm. She turned back towards the stage with a frown. I scoffed at her feeble attempt for his attention. Well, karma's a bitch.
My eyes trained back to the beautiful boy, until his gaze suddenly met mine. He raised an eyebrow, giving me a slightly amused look. I whipped my head back towards the principal, feeling embarrassed.
~~*Note, Calypso is a girl. One of my friends got confused because it's an uncommon name, so I'm clarifying it for everyone.
