JIMMY'S POV

My hand shook as I picked up the pen that I had been looking at for hours.

Come on, Jimmy. You can do this.

I looked down at the blank piece of paper and then looked over that the envelope that was ready to be sent. I put the pen to the paper and began to write.

Dear Val,

How have you been? I miss you so much.

No, that's not right. I crumpled up the paper and threw it away.

Ok, let me try again.

Dear Valerie,

I fucking want you back. I need my girl back.

I set my pen down and ran my fingers through my hair.

So much time has passed since I've spoken to her that I don't even know where to begin.

My life isn't the same without her with me. I don't know if I'll ever get over her, over us.

I talked to Tina the other day and she said that Val has been sleeping with my sweater and that she misses me too. I want to get back together with her so much.

Tina just keeps on saying "It's for the best, just remember why y'all ended it..."

I don't even remember anymore. None of that matters to me.

I just want her.

Today is her birthday, too.

Maybe I'll call her... No. I probably shouldn't.

Ugh but I want too.

I reached over to my phone and dialed her number. I immediately hung up.

What am I doing?

Valerie's dad always told everybody to take risks.

I dialed her again.

It rang twice and right as I was about to hang up I heard her sweet voice answer.

"Hello?" Her voice shocked me.

"Umm uh.. Hi."

"Who is this?"

"J-Jimmy. It's Jimmy."

"Oh.. Hi." Her tone changed.

"How are ya?"

"Yeah... I'm fine. You've been alright?"

"Yeah, I've been okay."

"Well, that's good, Jim. Do you need something?"

"No, I uh, I ummm. I was just calling to wish you a happy birthday."

"Oh." She giggled a little bit which put a smile on my face. "Well, thank you."

"Yeah, do you have any birthday plans?"

"Um, No. Not really. Unless you consider sitting in front of the TV, plans."

"Are you with anybody?" I scratched my head and tried to remain calm. I was just really excited I was talking to her.

"Nope."

"Do you want comp- Agh, no. Never mind."

"What? What were you going to say?"

"I mean, I understand if you want to be alone, but if you want company... I don't want you to be alone on your birthday."

"I'd love to see you."

I smiled and blushed.

"Wait, really?"
