Ten Years Later-
JIMMY'S POV
Isn't it crazy how your life can turn upside down in such a short amount of time? It feels just like yesterday when I was saying "I do" to the amazing woman that I've grown so distant from.
So much has happened over the past years that I don't even know where to begin...
I became the host of Late Night and just four years ago, I was moved up to the host of The Tonight Show. I've been doing it for years already, but somehow it still amazes me just how fortunate I am.
Nancy and I had a beautiful baby and she is the light in my world. I love her more than anything in the entire world. We had so much trouble getting pregnant and honestly, it killed both of us. Being the guy I am, I tried to stay positive and try and keep us happy through it all, but sometimes that isn't enough.
We were lucky enough to find a surrogate and boom, nine months later, my beautiful daughter, Winnie Rose, came into the world. She will be turning four this year and I just cant believe how she is just growing up so quickly before my eyes.
Unfortunately, during the five years we were trying to get pregnant, life just took its toll on us. We got into so many fights and it tore both of us apart. After Win was born, everything seemed like it was okay because we had a bundle of happiness in our lives, but even she couldn't fix us.
Nancy and I have been divorced for a year and it is just so awful. She was the woman I gave all of myself to. She was the person that I loved more than anyone else before.
Yeah, we both messed up our marriage and I'm not saying that I want to be with her, It's just so hard to give up on someone that you had so many good memories with.
Winnie goes back and forth between us and we will always be on good terms with each other, but we just aren't in love anymore.
I walked through the hallways that I've walked down thousands of times and found myself walking into Higgins' office. He was sitting at his desk, reading something on his phone.
"Hey Higs," He looked up and smiled at me.
"Jimmy! What's up?" I walked over to his desk and set down some papers that I just written on.
"Nothin, man. Here, I was just brainstorming some ideas for History of rap 10... Jeez, can you believe that? So, here. Let me know what you think." I was about to walk out of his office when his voice stopped me.
"Hey, Jim... Have you been okay?" I turned around and faced him. He stood up in his desk and set his phone down. "You haven't been the happy Jimmy that I've known since forever, is everything okay?"
He's right... I really haven't been myself. Its hard sharing your daughter with your ex wife... I want her in my apartment every single night, I want to be there to experience her saying things for the first time... Lately Nancy has been telling me that she has been saying certain things and I haven't heard any of them... I hate missing out on her and its killing me. Sure, I see her every other week, but its just not enough.
"Yeah, I'm okay, Higgs." I patted his arm and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Okay... Well Ellen is out of town with her sister on some 'girls vacation' and since you don't have Winnie this week, do you want to have dinner tonight?"
"Yeah, man. That would be really great."
"Okay..." He looked at me a little strangely and then walked around his desk to me. "Come here, man." He held out his arms and I gave him a hug. "I'm here whenever you need to talk, okay? You can be yourself around me, let me know what's going on in that strange head of yours. You don't have to pretend to be happy with me." I pulled away from him and nodded. "Okay, I'll come by your office later."
