It was easier to pretend that it never happened.

Training went on as usual, except for the fact that it was in almost absolute silence. Luke was, as always, pleased with Dave's progress and displeased with (Y/N)'s. She made little improvement in her fighting skills and even less improvement in her meditation. She was restless, always fidgeting, her eyes shadowed, and looking like if she stopped to relax for just a moment, then the world might come crashing down.

And maybe it would if she took only a moment to breathe, to look around and find the hope in the world- in Dave.

He also noticed not long ago that she'd been eating less and less, too. She had only one meal a day, if that, and her skin was stretched tautly over her bones. Her muscles had started to disappear. Even her cheeks were hollowed out.

"Hey, (Y/N), you want some?" Dave asked, holding out his glass of green milk. It was her favorite- he knew she'd take it.

And she did. "Thanks." He watched her as she tipped it back, her (e/c) eyes fluttering shut as the nutritious cream hit her tongue. When she opened them back up, that spark of Light was there, flickering like a fire on the coldest night.

"You're beautiful," Dave breathed.

(Y/N) froze.

And her cheeks burned the color of his saber.

"W-what?" She bubbled, a half smile on her face. "You think I'm beautiful?"

Dave nodded. "Don't tell your dad, though. He'll literally kill me."

And then (Y/N) laughed towards the sky, her voice like silver bells. "You're right about that one."

They stared at each other for a few moments, both flushed and jittery.

"Well-" they both started.

"I'm going to head off to bed," (Y/N) said. She laced her fingers in his and gently squeezed before turning and walking away. Her robes billowed in the green mountain breeze to reveal the ornate lightsaber clipped to her belt.

"Good night," he called after her.

She didn't turn to look back.

That night, Dave slept peacefully. He dozed off to sleep fairly quickly and had a pleasant dream about the future. Him and (Y/N) were married, her (h/c) grown to her hips and turned grey. There were three children running around, one old enough to have her own child, the other a few years younger, and the third barely reaching his sisters' waists. He felt content.

He woke up to screaming.

There were children screaming and he could smell burnt flesh.

Dave threw the blankets from his bare self, slipped on his robes faster than he could think about it and fled his room.

It was raining outside. Thunder was cracking the sky overhead while lightning struck the horizon with such force the ground seemed to quake.

"(Y/N)!" Dave called out, ducking into her room a few doors down.

She wasn't there.

One shrill, petrified cry sliced through the air and Dave was running. He crested the next hill and couldn't believe what he saw.

Pools of sticky, reeking blood flooded the grassy ground. Bodies covered every inch of space- and the smell. It was strongest here: burnt, pungent, and sour.

The harrowing blue of (Y/N)'s saber flickered as she fell to her knees amongst the carnage.

"(Y/N)!" Dave shouted.

She glanced over his shoulder as he sprinted towards her. "Dave, stop."

He continued to run. He had to make sure she was alright, that she was safe.

(Y/N) stood, angling her body towards him. "Stop."

Her hands- the hilt of her saber- they were smeared with that blood. It was splattered across her face in patterns of sprayed droplets. She was covered in it.

He obeyed.

"I won't kill you, too."

The words struck him more violently than any blade or blaster.

"Just- just stay back, and I won't... Don't make me kill you, too," she pleaded.

Her eyes were Dark.

There was no Light left.

"What have you done?" Dave whimpered, taking an unconscious step forward. "Why?"

"They told me to," (Y/N) answered. "They told me to. They told me to."

He blinked the rain from his eyes. "Who?"

"They said the perfect evil can only be forged by the corruption of the purest good." (Y/N) lit her saber, and for the first time, Dave realized how perfectly it fit in her grasp, how deadly a weapon she could become by wielding her saber. The blue casted only more shadows on her once (e/c) eyes.

"Who told you that, (Y/N)?" But, Dave already knew.

It wasn't a person.

It was the Dark.

"You or me, they said," (Y/N) rambled. "I wouldn't let them take you, so I let them take me."

Dave offered her a hand, stepping closer. "It's okay. Just take my hand and we can go. We'll go where it's safe, (Y/N). I promise, I'll keep you safe."

"They say you're lying!" (Y/N) flinched backwards. "You lied to me! You've been lying all along!"

She swung at him.

Dave nimbly hopped backwards, but he slipped into the mud.

And then she was atop him, light blade ready to be plunged into his abdomen.

"(Y/N), stop."

"Fight back!" She screamed. Her chest heaved with each breath.

"I won't fight you."

She reared backwards. "Coward!"

"I love you."

And she thrust the blue column through flesh and grass and dirt.

okay so long time no see, this ending was shit, and congrats to me on 75k! love ya'll lots.
