Dave's POV
With every passing day, I found myself falling in love with (Y/N) (L/N) over and over and over again. I fell in love with the way her smile brightened up anywhere we were, the way I could make her laugh until she couldn't breathe. She always seemed as if she had an energy drink for breakfast when I saw her.
"She's only ever like that when you're around," Maddie tells me. She had just died her hair snow white.
"Really?" I grinned, realizing for the first time that I made her happier than anyone else in the world.
"Really." Maddie nods and looks away. I followed her gaze and caught her staring at a guy.
She had recently been put back on the single-pringle list after breaking up with Joe. "Who's that?" I asked her, trying the place the face to a name.
"No one! We're moving on," she said hurriedly. When I raised my eyebrows, she continued to direct my attention away from the boy. "Come on, (Y/N) is waiting for us."
I dropped the stack of colored cardstock paper in front of (Y/N) creating a loud slap on the table. (Y/N) jumped, quite startled, and fell backwards out of her chair. On the table in front of her was our project layout. We were to construct an argument whether or not to continue fracking in the US.
"Agh!" She shrieked. (Y/N) looked up and saw me, giving an evil squint. "I'm gonna- I'll-" She scrunched her eyebrows. "You~"
"You'll what?" I looked down at her with my hands on my hips.
"Get to work over there!" The science teacher called.
(Y/N) grumbled and shook her head disapprovingly.
I picked up the project sheet to take a peek at our layout. However, when I lifted the piece of paper off of the table there was another piece underneath. This one was lined and had half a page full of writing.
I reached for it, and (Y/N) lunged upward, trying to seize it before I could. I snatched it and turned away from her to read it.
Dave,
When you first arrived here at Oak Creek, I was stunned and didn't want to believe it.
"Hey! Stop that!" (Y/N) tried to grab the paper, but I dodged her with my amazing ninja skills.
I know I said that I just wanted to be friends, and at the time, I meant it.
"Give it back!" She whined, blushing furiously.
But now, I think I want to be more than friends. These past few days have been some of the best days of my life, besides meeting you for the first time, of course.
"Dave..."
Will you go out with me?
I stopped breathing, reading the last line over and over and over again.
"Dave?"
"Do you mean it?" I choked out. I held the note fiercely as if my life depended on the sheet of paper.
(Y/N) was silent for a moment, then spoke softly, "Yes."
