I hoped out of my pick-up truck and swung my backpack over my shoulder. Great, another year of school. More homework and essays and boredom and fuck no. I thought as I pushed opened the doors to school.
I walked past a bunch of girls giggling over some guy and trudged my way to the commons. The place where most people hang out. It's like a lounge, it has couches and tables set around the room.
I saw Alex sitting on a couch, "Hey Alex. Have fun over summer vacation?"
"If by fun you mean play video games, watch youtube videos, and sit around my house, then yes. I had a blast." She put her phone down.
I laughed. I heard the sound of feet slamming the ground from behind me. Oh no, brace for impact. I thought, knowing Charlie was about run into me.
I was suddenly pushed forwards, "Blake, guess what? Rainy tripped this morning while getting out of Baby Blue!" Charlie was laughing.
I never understood why she called Ryan 'Rainy.'
Ryan walked up, "Hey, you left me sitting in the parking lot, stuck to your locked car door."
Charlie smiled even bigger, "I'm sorry Rainy."
"I can't believe you still call me that! That happened in fourth grade!" He ran his fingers through his dirty blond, short ski jump hair cut.
"Why are you wearing a black tang top?" Mandy asked Ryan when she walked up.
"My plaid shirt got caught in Charlie's car door. And she locked it so I couldn't get it out, so I pulled and then it ripped. So now I have to wear this." Ryan uncomfortably rubbed his muscle-ly arm.
"Aw, Rainy. I think you look lovely." Charlie lightly slapped his face.
They do that, a lot. They say they're like brother and sister, but everyone in our grade thinks they'd make the cutest couple.
The bell rung, "Come on Rainy, time to go to math." Charlie grabbed Ryan's arm and dragged him off to their math class.
"I have to get to Art, see yah guys later." I walked off to my art class, not one of my favorite classes of the day, but it beats math.
I walked into the room to find no one that I knew in my class. And to top that off, kids that I did not want in my class, were in my class. Just Great.
I sat down on a stool, rested my elbow up on the table and supported my head in my hand.
"Oooo new girl." A boy said.
I looked up, Shit, shit, shit. No wait...this is a good thing! Wait, is it? I looked down at the table.
"Nice butt babe. Why don't you come have a seat next to old Toddy boy?" Todd, the most annoying kid in the world, with the biggest ego ever said.
"In your dreams. Hey, is that you Blake?" Jessie sat down next to me.
"Jessie, you go here?" I asked, trying to dial down the blushing.
"No, I mean now I do, but I just moved here. My Dad got a new job working at the post office. Oh, that sounds like a suckish job, let me rephrase that. He got a new job to be the manager of the post office." She paused, "Nope, still sounds quite suckish."
I laughed, "Working at a post office isn't a suckish job! I know a bunch of people who like mail!" I dropped my head for a second, Could you be anymore stupid? I thought to myself, wishing there was a rock big enough for me to hide under.
"It's okay, you'd just really need to hear his job description from him to get what he does and why it's a good enough reason to move." She moved her hair behind her ear.
I nodded.
"Well at least there's someone at school that I know. Now it isn't going to be such a bore!" She smiled.
"Good morning. Is everyone having a good first day?" Ms. Powers asked.
"I am now, since your here." Jessie put her hand on top of mine.
Don't squeal, don't freak out, don't fangirl. I scolded myself.
Three hours and forty minutes later, I was sitting on the ground with my back up against the wall eating a sandwich with my friends.
"So, I heard there's a new girl." Ryan said to Charlie.
"Yeah, I saw her," Charlie looked at me, "She's in my english class."
I took an interest in my sandwich.
"I know I've seen her somewhere. What was her name? Jessie?" Charlie elbowed me in the shoulder.
"Huh, yeah. Jessie's in my art class." I mumbled.
"Really? Cool! I want to meet this 'Jessie'." Ryan said.
"Blake? You have the same lunch period as me too! This is great!" Jessie stood in front of me.
"Yeah, do you want to sit?" I pushed Mandy over.
"Hey!" Mandy looked up from her phone and saw Jessie. "Oh, never mind." She scooted over to Alex.
Jessie sat down next to me. "Any other guys hit on you?" I asked.
"No," she was looking at Ryan and Charlie hit each other.
"Don't worry, they do that." I told her.
"What's his name?" She asked.
Shit, she's not into girls, stupid bi-dar. I thought disappointingly.
"He's kind of cute, don't you think?" She asked me.
"Nah, not my type." I answered.
