Chapter 1: You and me

Lauren

"So..." I started sitting down on my couch.

"So...I'm really going to miss you" Niall said smiling.

"Yeah right." I retorted jokingly.

"I love you and I promise you that nothing will come in between you and me. " Niall said looking into my eyes.

"I love you too." I said all of a sudden feeling sad.

I knew that he was coming back eventually but there was no guarantee that he was coming back to me. While on the X-factor he might meet someone else and leave me for her.

I think he could tell what I was thinking because the next thing he said was "You are my one and only. No one can replace you in my heart. "

My emotions got the best of me and a tear drop fell down my face.

He gently wiped the tear off my cheek, cupped my face and kissed me gently on my lips.

"This isn't the end just a new beginning" he stated looking into my eyes.

I nodded my head and pasted a smile on my face.

I leaned in and kissed him again this time with longing. I wish he could stay but this was his dream and it wouldn't be fair of me to ask him to stay here for me. 

"What time are you leaving?" I asked him.

"When I walk out of this door I'm heading to the airport. " he whispered.

"Oh. " was all I could say.

After a moment of silence I asked him "What time does your plane leave? "

"8." he said.

I grabbed my phone off of the table to see what time it was. It was 6:55.

"It's almost 7." I worried.

"We'll have all the time in the world when I get back." he said.

I couldn’t help but smile. Hearing him talk about the future makes me actually believe that there is hope for us after all.

“Do you have a ride to the airport?” I asked.

“Yeah; my mom insisted that she drive me.” Niall said sadly.

“Okay.” I nodded, “Get there safe and come home a winner.” I smile at him and he smiles back.

We both get up off the couch at the same time and I walk him over to the door.

“Call or text me when you get there” I said.

“There’s nothing else I would want to do.” He smiles. “I love you.”

And with that he kisses me goodbye and walks away. I close the door behind him and let out a sigh. I can’t believe this; everything is happening too fast. It was just a year ago he told me he liked me.

*Flashback Starts*

“One, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war” Niall said.

I hated playing thumb wars but it was the next best thing to holding his hand.

“I win.” Niall shouted and jumped in the air.

“You sure showed my thumb whose boss.” I said smiling at him.

“Well maybe I should show you whose boss.” Niall said flirtatiously.

Niall was always flirting with girls and that even included me, his best friend. I guess I got used to it and decided not to read too much into it. Don’t get me wrong I like Niall but he’s two years older than me and I think he’s into girl’s more his age.

“Maybe it is time.” I said getting up preparing myself to run as I saw him edge closer to me, “That is if you can catch me.”

Before Niall can even blink I run over to the playground three feet away. He chases after me and I know I can’t out run him so I climb up a set of baby stairs to where the slide is. When I look back I notice that Niall isn’t behind me so I slide down to see where he went. Right as I get off the slide and look to my left he grabs me from behind and I let out a gasp.

“Got you.” Niall teased.

I began to laugh.

“Let me go.” I pleaded.

“Not until you admit that I’m the boss.” Niall said.

“Never.” I said then laughed.

If I’m being honest I didn’t want him to let go of me. I enjoyed having his arms wrapped around me even if we were just playing around.

“Then I guess I’m going to have to show you.” He whispered in my ear.

He let me go and I turned to face him. Before I could say anything he closed the space between us and kissed me softly almost as if uncertain about it. I knew he was flirtatious but I never knew him to take flirting with me this far. I knew that it might have just been in the moment and I should pull back but I didn’t want to so I kissed him back. He pulled away causing me to open my eyes.

“Lauren, I like you and I would love it if you would let me call myself your boyfriend.” He stated.

All I could do was look at him and smile. I couldn’t control my excitement so I jumped on him causing him to tumble backwards laughing.

“So I guess that’s a yes?” Niall asked in between laughs.

“Yes.” I said as calmly as I possibly could.

He moved a strand of hair out of my face and placed it behind my ear. He leaned up and kissed me again this time more certain. I kissed him back and I felt a smile spread across his face.

“What?” I asked coming up from the kiss.

“I’m just happy that I get to finally call you my girlfriend. I didn’t think that you liked me in that way.” Niall said.

“I didn’t think that you liked me.” I said.

“Me not like you? You’re amazing.” Niall stated looking into my eyes.

I blushed and got off of him. I put out a hand to him to help him up and he took it.

“This is the start of a beautiful relationship.” He said.

*Flashback ends* 

As I snap back into reality I walk to my room and just lie on the bed with my phone in hand waiting for him text me. This is going to work I tell myself over and over, it has to.
