New Kid?

It was finally my last class of the day, Math; my absolute favorite.

Can you sense the sarcasm again?

The bell just rang and we all sat down as our math teacher walked in.

"Alright class, before we get started, I have some news," he started, "there is a new student coming in for the last days of school. His name is Josh Cole. He will be resuming school after summer."Well I wasn't expecting that. "I expect all of you to treat him normally. He will be locker 305 and 307. When he gets here tomorrow, can someone please show him to his locker?" He asked. All the girls started to raise their hands. His locker is going to be right next to me. I hope he isn't like the rest of the kids in school. "Who's locker is going to be next to his?" I hesitated and waited a moment before raising my hand.

"M-mine sir," I stutter. Everyone turned around and stared at me as soon as I answered. He nodded.

"Thank you, Destiny. Will you show Mr. Cole to his locker tomorrow?" He questioned me.

"Y-yes sir," I replied.

"Very well, he will be coming in early so I will inform him that you will show him to his locker. Alright class get out your books and turn to page 352." We all got out our books and turned to the page that Mr. Welson, our math teacher, had told us to. I couldn't keep the thought that there was a new kid coming to school, and that I would have to show them to their locker, out of my mind. He will probably make fun of me just like everyone else. But, I hope that doesn't happen.

After a long, agonizing class of mathematical equations that made absolutely no sense to me, the last bell, signaling the end of class, rang and all the students got up from their seats and grabbed their things.

As soon as I walked out into the hallway, a swarm of girls surrounded me. I stopped walking, getting the impression that someone wanted to talk to me, and as I thought, one of them stepped forward and started talking.

"You think that you have a chance of having another friend? You're stupid for even dreaming of that. He's going to ignore you like everyone else ignores a freak. Watch your back. Oh, and don't even bother showing him his locker, someone that's not an idiot should do that," she glared at me and walked away with the group of girls following her, leaving me just standing there. I really like you too. Have a wonderful day. What a wonderful way to end a Monday school day. Just when they left, Denise came out of the math room and came jogging toward me.

"C'mon! We're going to miss the bus! And I don't want my mom driving me home, you know how that is" she remarked. I surprisingly laughed a little.

Hey look, a smile.

We raced out to the bus and got on, just in time. We sat in silence for a few minutes, when I couldn't handle it any longer.

"Hey," I said.

"Hi," she replied.

"Hello," I smiled.

"Sup," She smiled back

"So..." My voice wondered off. She laughed slightly.

"Well that escalated quickly. I thought that I saw a group of girls crowding around you when I left the math room," she questioned. Crap, now I gotta make an excuse. I don't want Denise to know because then she will go all crazy on whoever was in the group.

"Nope, they just passed me and, you know, the usual, they made faces and stuff," I tried my best not to stutter.

"Oh, ok." She said with a little bit of anger on her face. It quickly faded away.
