A/N:
Hope ya'll are ready for a little bit of angst.
I had a little too much fun writing this so it is gonna be a bit lengthy.
==========
You weren't quite sure as to how you ended up here. You weren't even sure where you were. All you remember was how you felt prior to this whole mess. Prior to... some random ghoul beginning to eat you up.
early this afternoon...
"Ayato?" you called as you knocked on the door for the fifth time. "Ayato??" you called once more. Again, there was no reply.
Even though you knew Ayato was a busy person, you made him promise to keep today free so that you could spend some quality time with him. To you, it didn't matter what you did, as long as you were by his side. And you were sure that (even though he didn't show it) he felt the same way.
A bit frustrated, but rather more saddened, you let out a huff and stomped off to your apartment. When you had arrived, you turned off your phone and threw it into a random corner, not caring if it broke or not. You decided that if Ayato wanted to talk, he would have to come here.
In the meantime, you had slumped to the floor, right in front of the door. Your mind was racing, thinking of all the reasons why he wouldn't answer. Maybe he was suddenly called into work. No. He would've messaged you. Maybe he forgot. No. You were sure to remind him every so often.
For every possible excuse you could think of, each one was immediately shot down.
Feeling hopeless and exhausted, you closed your eyes and fell asleep on the cold, wooden floor.

When you had woken up, darkness was beginning to creep in. Not wanting to risk going out at a later time, you hastily put on your shoes, grabbed your bag and ran out the door.
Arriving at the front of your boyfriend's apartment, you quickly fixed your messy hair and smoothed out your clothes. You then proceeded to knock on the door. Once. Twice. Three times. It took you three times to realize that something was amiss.
You noticed that there were a few tiny pearls lying around in front of the door, a silver chain peeping out from underneath it.
You hesitantly turned the handle of the front door, trying carefully to not make a sound. Lo and behold, there was Ayato laying on the couch. Naked. A girl (also stripped of her clothes) was riding him as he continued to grope at her; both of them too preoccupied to notice someone had walked in.
Too shocked to say anything, you slammed the door shut and ran away, not knowing where you were going. You soon found yourself at the entrance of a cafe. Still shaking, you walked in and took a seat in one of the furthest corners of the room.
"Funny..." you had commented somewhat bitterly. "That waitress over there looks the same as him. Oh, please, God. I don't want to be reminded right now of him."
After brooding over the fact that your boyfriend-- no-- ex-boyfriend had cheated on you, you paid for your untouched drink and left the shop.
You mindlessly walked down the street, unaware of the lustful stares you were receiving. You were suddenly brought back to reality when someone had pulled you into the darkest part of the alley. Before you even had time to fully register what was happening, a hand was put over your mouth and the person who had grabbed you bit harshly into your shoulder.
"A ghoul..." you noted sorrowfully. "So this is how it ends... Oh, God. How did I end up here?"
As your vision began to fade, you had felt the weight of the ghoul be removed, his teeth no longer indulging in your flesh. A tall, looming figure had come to your rescue.

Coming to, you opened your eyes, still dazed from the previous night's events. A tall man with silver hair whom you had just noticed was changing the bandages on your shoulder.
"I'm guessing you are the one who saved me?" you asked, your voice hoarse and quiet.
The man silently nodded his head.
"Then... is it safe to guess that you-- you are also a ghoul?"
The man had, for a split second, halted in his movements.
"I'll take that as a yes. Please," you began. "There's no need to take care of me."
He didn't stop bandaging your arm but looked at you curiously.
"I know this will sound strange... but could you do me a favor and eat me?"

Ayato had woken up in the middle of the night, feeling a little off.
He had checked his phone and saw that he had missed numerous calls messages from you. He simply brushed it off and went back to bed, the random girl now awake and once again needy for him.
Waking up again in the morning, his female companion long gone, Ayato decided to call his girlfriend. To his dismay, she had not picked up once. More frustrated and angry than usual, he left his apartment and went to look for you.
Using his keen sense of smell, he ended up in the alley you were in the previous night. He immediately noticed the dried pools of blood and bits of flesh and was totally overwhelmed by the scent of your blood. Now panicked, he followed the scent all the way back to Anteiku.
When he had arrived, his sister and Renji Yomo were inside the shop, quietly discussing the letter which you had entrusted to them.
Touka slid the envelope to her brother wordlessly. Ayato had a bad feeling about the situation was in but ignored it.
He took the letter, a bit confused, and immediately recognizing the handwriting. Not wanting to read something a bit personal in front of them, he stuffed the letter in his pocket. The nagging feeling persisting in his chest.
Yomo then motioned for Ayato to follow him, leading him to a sort of basement.
There, in the middle of the room, covered with plastic, was your lifeless body.
