The unfinished To Do List mocked her as she sat and stared at it, her mind not in the task. She had a lot of shopping to do for the New year's Eve party that night, but her thoughts were elsewhere.

She raised her left hand and looked at the small diamond that was on her ring finger and she thoughtfully spun it around with her thumb, the pencil in between her teeth as she watched the snow falling outside.

"Hey, Melia. you with us?"

She jumped at the voice  and turned around to see Ali standing behind her, her long dark hair was up in a messy pony tail. "Huh?"

Ali laughed and walked over to the coffee pot and poured the liquid into her mug. "You look deep in thought, what's up?" She grabbed another mug and poured a second cup.

Amelia let out a sigh and let the pencil fall on the table and put her hands on her lower back and arched her back, trying to straighten out the kinks. "Trying to do this invitation list."

Ali sat next to Amelia and spun the notebook towards her so she could see it. "Wedding invites? Well..I'm on here..don't need to add any others."

Amelia laughed. "ha, ha." she sighed again and brought her knees up to her chest. "I was just trying to figure out if I should invite Joe or not. Haven't heard from him since Bryan proposed. Do you think Joe hates Bryan?"

Ali shrugged and took a sip of the coffee. She didn't want to say what was on her mind. She could see that Amelia was torn between two guys and it was tearing her friend apart. "I don't know. But I would throw out that offer, see what he says." She sat the mug on the counter. "So, are we excited about this party tonight or what? I mean the Guys have Club Naveu booked, how exciting."

Amelia sighed and grabbed her mug of coffee. "I don't know..Bryan's not coming, he has to work again."

Ali sighed. "That's a bummer. Seems all he does is work. Would be nice of him to get to know the Guys, after all, they are family."

"I know." Amelia picked at the mat and she looked up at Ali. "I'm beginning to second guess this whole marriage thing. I mean, do I really wanna be a cop's wife?"

"That's something you need to think on." Ali said with a shrug. "No one can answer that but yourself."

Amelia bit her bottom lip, struggling with her inner demons. She didn't want to voice the real reason why she was second guessing the proposal. And that certain reason had just walked into the kitchen, his curly blond hair sticking up, his blue eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep.

Joe glanced over at her as he made his way to the coffee pot and his eyes landed on the glint of the diamond on her finger and his mood soured once again. He hoped Bryan was not at the club, because he did not want to spend his birthday watching some cop pawing over the girl that should be his.

Amelia handed the valet the keys to her navy blue Mustang, taking the ticket from him. Her and Ali checked in their coats and headed into the dance room.

Music was pumped over the speakers, several VIP fans were in the middle of the floor dancing. This had been the talked about event of the year. A contest had been held and the lucky fans got to spend an evening with the New Kids.

Joe was leaning against the bar, listening to Jordan hit on a woman that was sitting at the bar. But he wasn't interested. Instead, he was interested on the gorgeous creature that had just walked into the club.

She was wearing a long sleeved, sequence mini dress with an incredible plunging neckline. Her long hair was draped over one shoulder, fastened with a silver barrette that glittered under the strobe lights. Her legs looking so long in a pair of black stiletto heels. She was everyone's attention as she made eye contact with him.

He bit his bottom lip, giving her a crooked smile as she walked up to him, the swirl of her perfume greeting him first. She leaned in, kissing him on the cheek, her mouth against his ear.

"Happy Birthday."

Joe pulled back to see her smile. "Uh..thanks." He looked behind her, scoping the dance floor.

"Hmmm.." She tilted her head. "He's not here. Working a double shift again." She sighed and sat down on the stool, crossing her left leg over her right, flashing him the bare skin of her thigh. "I need a drink."

Joe turned and signaled to the bartender. "Another Scotch." He turned to Amelia. "And you?"

"The same."

Joe chuckled. "Strong drink."

"I can handle my own, Joseph." She leaned into him, putting her finger on the collar of his gray suite coat. "I came here with a mission." She lifted her eyes, tilting her head. "The question is.." She smiled again, running her finger down his chest, skimming over his belt.

"What?"

She lifted her eyes again. "The question is." She took her Scotch and slammed the drink down. "I have a hotel room upstairs.' She smiled and took out the card key, sliding it towards him. "So..Mr. McIntyre. I plan on getting plastered tonight. Tonight..I'm not engaged." She smiled up at him. "And neither are you. You want me..I want you..No Strings. Let's finish what we started on Christmas Eve. Shall we?"

Joe let out a breath as she walked away from him, joining Ali on the dance floor. He turned his head to see Jordan looking at him, a huge grin on his face. "What?"

Jordan chuckled. "If you say no to that, you need your head examined."
