Chapter thirty-three

Alli's POV

I wake up and get dressed to get Charles. I text Colette to make sure Gavin is up. I finishing getting ready and walk downstairs. Nathan hugs me and smiles, "how was yesterday?" "I thought I told you." He shakes his head, "no you never did." "Oh whoops, well she's awake and being her old stubborn self." He smiles and feeds Jackson for me. I get food for the twins and myself. After I eat my food I get my shoes on to leave. I grab my bag and kiss Nate, "see you later babe." I smile and go to my car. I text Charles telling him I'm leaving. I drive to the Butlers house first and wait for Gavin to come out. When he does I drive to Charles' house. I honk my horn and he comes running out. He smiles at me and gets in the front, "excited Gavin?" He nods and smiles. We drive to the hospital in silence. When we get their I go to the front desk with Charles, "we are here to see Kristen." The nurse nods and we take Gavin back with us. We go in to find Kristen awake. She sees Gavin and smiles. She manages to sit up and she hugs him. I look at Charles and smile. They hugged for a long time and it was so cute. Gavin kisses her and starts laughing. Kristen smiles and kisses him back. They hug again and let go. Kristen cries and smiles at me and Charles. "Don't cry sweetie, are you happy?" I wipe her eyes and she nods, "so happy." I grab her hand and smile, "how was therapy?" "Eh, I got mad at the physical therapist." I laugh and so does Charles, "oh well, did you do good?" She nods and starts to squeeze my hand, "see!" I smile and squeeze her hand back. She slowly let's go and moves her hand to Charles. She grabs his hand but doesn't lift it. Charles smiles at her, "you're getting better." He says smiling. He kisses her forehead and the nurse comes in and gives her a tray of food. Kristen slowly moves her hand to the spoon to lift it up. The nurse nods and smiles, "keep going Kristen." Kristen lifts the spoon and scoops up some jello. She opens her mouth and has some jello. She finishes the cup and grab a water bottle. I open it for her and she drinks. I smile at her, "good job." She puts it back down and I put the cap on. The nurse looks at Gavin, "Kristen, who's this?" Kristen looks at Gavin and smiles, "Gavin, my boyfriend." The nurse nods and leaves. Kristen sits up and looks around, "I have more therapy later." I nod, "that's fine, are they coming in here?" She nods and pats the end of her bed for Gavin since he's standing. He comes and sits down. She smiles at him and he smiles back. "How long was I out?" She asks Charles. "A week and a half." She nods, "wow..." We nod and sigh, "crazy, right?" She nods again. Gavin checks his phone and stands up, "Alli?" I turn and look at him, "yes?" "Can you drive me home? I have to go birthday gift shopping for my mom." I nod, "sure." I say bye to Kristen and Charles. I walk Gavin out to my car and I drive to his house. I go in with him to see his parents. I smile at them, "hello." I say hugging Shay. "Happy birthday." I tell Colette. "Thanks." Shay looks at me, "how did it go with him?" "She was so happy to see him." They both nod, "good." I hug both of them again and leave. I go to Charles' house and go to the door. I knock and wait for it to open, "Alli? What are you doing here?" "I was wondering if you wanted to see Kristen, I had to drop Gavin off so I thought I would get you." She nods, "sure, my friend has Brianna anyways today." I nod, "I'm going to get Nathan too." She nods and gets in the front seat. I drive to my house and go to the door, "Nate! Come on let's go!" I yell so he could hear me where ever he is. He runs down the stairs and kisses me, "hey." I smile, "hey." I hug him and he shuts the door, "you have to sit in the back, Allie's here." "Why is she here?" "Well she is Charles' girlfriend and it felt right to bring her." He nods and gets in the car. I drive back to the hospital and go to Kristen's room. I go in first, "you took long en- Allie? What are you doing here?" She shrugs and goes over to Charles. They hug and kiss each other. Nathan grabs my hand. Kristen smiles and hugs Allie and glares at Nathan. She hates Nathan. The nurse comes in and looks at Allie and Nathan, "Kristen, who are these people?" Kristen looks at them both, "Allie and Nathan." The nurse nods and leaves. I let Nate sit in the chair and I sit on the end of her bed. Charles let's Allie sit in his lap and she grabs her hand. Kristen smiles at her, "how have you been?" Kristen asks Allie. I smile and so does Allie, "good, worrying about you." Kristen sighs, "don't, I'm fine." Allie smiles and kisses her forehead, "how can I not?" Kristen shrugs. The doctor comes in and goes over to Kristen. I stand up and he helps her stand. "Ok so we are going to start therapy only her parents can be in here please." I kiss Nate and he walks outside. Charles does the same with Allie and the door closes. I go over to Charles and we watch Kristen do therapy. She does really well, she can stand up by herself and also grab and lift stuff. The doctor finally leaves. Kristen sits back down and smiles, "done with therapy for today." She smiles at Charles and I. "You're getting so much better." I say kissing her forehead.

My stomach dropped and it hurt

I don't know why

All she said was,

"I was just a shadow of my partner."

Was she a shadow of Charles?
