Jake opened his eyes as a groan echoed. He rolled his head slightly and glanced at Lilli. She quickly got up and grabbed his arm. Jake tried to sit up but Lilli held him down.
"You need to rest." Lilli ordered. Jake relaxed and sighed.
"I can't believe he got away." He mumbled, ignoring a massive migraine.
"Why aren't you glad that you got away? I mean, it's not like the fight was on your side." Lilli retorted.
"So what? I was getting him, I actually had a chance but I choked out at the last second." Jake sighed heavily.
"You would really get yourself killed if it meant stoping William?"
"Yeah, knowing that you and the others were safe I would happily die if it meant that."
"What if you died whilst trying to stop William but failed?"
"Than I would know that I failed you." Jake mumbled as his robotic hand groaned with new life. He lifted his robotic limb and grabbed Lilli's hand.
"Look Beaver, I know it's tough to think about but we have to accept the fact that there will be a fight that I only get a one way ticket to. And there is not a minute that goes by when I don't think about it. I go into every battle wondering if I'll be able to see you again and this last fight left me blind in my left eye. So now all I want to do is stay here and be with you. Until my time comes, I want to spend every moment with you." Jake mumbled. Lilli grinned slightly but it soon disappeared. She let go of Jake's hand and stepped back. Tears swelled in her eyes and she cleared her throat.
"Beaver, What are you doing? What's wrong?" Jake asked quickly, hoping he was wrong. Lilli tried to speak but nothing came out. Jake began to panic. He ripped the sheet off and threw his legs over the side of the bed. He limped quickly towards Lilli but she ran out of the room. Jake threw his clothes on and put his jacket on as he ran through the door. As he turned he saw something he thought he would never have to deal with. He stopped dead in his tracks.
"B-Beaver?" He mumbled as the bandage on his jaw came loose.
"J-Jake it's not what it looks like!" Anthony boomed as he let go of Beaver.
"It sure as hell better not be." Jake demanded.
Lilli started towards Jake but he limped back a step.
"Is this what you were gonna tell me? That you and Anthony were a thing? Or were you gonna break up with me than go to Anthony?... Which one!?" Jake yelled.
"Don't yell at her!" Anthony snapped.
"Don't yell? Don't yell!? I just went to hell and back because I was protecting you, Lilli and Hannah from the most powerful guy in the world so excuse me if I seem a little on edge right now!" Jake yelled as his voice cracked and he realized he dropped Lilli's nickname.
"Jake please, you don't have to be this way, it's not what it looks like!" Lilli spoke quietly.
"Yeah, tell it to Jax, no, no, tell it to Jay! Tell it to the two people that died because we weren't quick enough... I'm outta here, Lilli, call me when you feel like it, Anthony, eat a dick." Jake spoke Colby as he stormed into the garage. As he yanked a key from the wall Lilli burst in the door.
"Jake, please don't go. I love you!" She exclaimed as tears ran down her face. Jake didn't look at her. He clicked a button and a black Mustang roared to life. As he walked to it Lilli grabbed his arm.
"Please, I don't want to lose you." She mumbled.
"Maybe you should've thought about that before you took away the one reason I fought back." Jake groaned as he yanked open the door. Before he got in he turned to Lilli and drew something from his jacket.
It was a torn blue stripe and a folded black leather jacket with a green stripe on the back.
"These are of the people that lost their reasons to be here. Maybe they'll be the last." Jake said as he thrust them into Lilli's hands. Before she could speak Jake got in the car and slammed the door. He glanced back at her for a split second before slamming on the gas. The tires squealed and he sped off. He heard Lilli call his name before her voice died out into the engine. Jake wiped his eyes and glanced down at his phone.
He held it in his hand and thought of what he was about to do. He took a deep breath and tossed the phone out of the window. Disconnecting him from the rest of the team.
Suddenly Jake felt the ground shift, he stopped and got out of the car. He felt the ground shift again. He grabbed on to the car and held himself up. He glanced backwards and saw flames rising over the trees.
"Beaver?" He asked out loud. He got back in the car and spun around. As he drew closer to the fire, he began to feel the heat. Soon he was back in front of the base and climbed out of the car. The heat hit him like a truck. He ripped off his jacket and took off towards the building. As he ran a person erupted from the flames and tackled Jake. He hit the ground and got a look at the person.
"Beaver!" He shouted. Her eyes were bright orange and glowing. Jake shook her off and rolled over. As he got up Lilli held out her hands. Flames shot from them and hit Jake in the chest. They took Jake to the ground and he felt them rip through his skin. He cried out as his eyes began to glow bright white.
Jake got up and patted his shirt. He hovered in the air and curled his hands into fists.
