The explosion was the last thing Jake saw before waking up in a small, brightly lit room. He tilted his head as it pounded with pain and his entire body seemed to radiate heat. Until the silence was broken by the door opening slowly.
"Well, look who's awake." The woman smiled.
Jake groaned in an attempt to give a sarcastic remark. The doctor smile and looked down at Jake.
"You're very lucky Mr. Waver, that explosion could have killed you, it's a wonder you survived. It's like something held you together." She laughed.
"Was anyone else.. hurt" Jake groaned.
"Beside a few scrapes and fractures no one died at least." She went on as she wrote a few things on her clipboard. As she left the room Jake struggled to sit up and swung his legs over the bed. He flipped the covers off and saw bandages, scratches, scrapes and all other wounds.
Jake saw the iv in his arm and knew he had to get it out. He had to get back to finding Thatcher and finishing what he started. He bit down on the iv and braced for a terrible pain. He then ripped the iv from his arm and winced. He started towards the door when a man in black walked in holding a pistol.
"What took you so long?" Jake asked as he saw a cart in front of him. Before the man could pull the gun Jake kicked the cart and charged the man. As the guy kicked the cart aside Jake drives his shoulder into him. The two went through the door and hit the wall.
People began to scatter as Jake kicked the gun from his and dove towards it. He gripped the gun and as he turned over the man grabbed his arm and tried to shove it into Jake's face. The two than struggled for the weapon as people began to yell and run.
"Let me guess, Thatcher sent you." Jake grunted as the gun began to bend towards his jaw.
"No, I'm from-" crack. The man was cut off by a bat being struck across the back of his skull.
The man slumped onto Jake and instantly Jake held the gun up to whoever had hit the man.
"Hey! It's me, Abbie." Abbie spoke sternly.
Jake took a deep breath and let the gun fall out of his hand.
"As it would appear, more than one organization wants me dead." Jake groaned.
"Doesn't that scare you?" Abbie asked as she helped Jake up.
"Not really, after a while the death threats and what have you get repetitive." Jake grunted.
"You've had a gun drawn on you before?"
"No, actually that one's new. I'll give to him for creativity." Jake chuckled.
The two started down the hall when Anthony and the others came around the corner.
"What happened? We were waiting in the lobby when all these people came storming from this hall." Anthony panted.
"This guy was about to shoot me when Abbie managed to get a hit on him. She saved my life." Jake grinned.
The five than walked out of the hospital and climbed into their cars, except Jake, who got into a car with Anthony and Abbie.
"We'll just go back to the house and I'll have to go rebuild the arm. And now come to think of it I'll need to find those stones again... Lord knows how long that'll take." Jake groaned.
"Actually, after the explosion I saw them fly off and I managed to grab them and hide them before the cops showed." Anthony laughed as he tossed Jake a baggy.
Jake picked it up and examined the stones. All three were present and unscathed. He thanked Anthony and stuffed the stones into a jacket pocket. As they drove on the sun began to set and Jake began to nod off when the car suddenly lurched. Jake was jarred awake and Anthony swore loudly.
"What the hell!?" Anthony shouted.
The car skidded to a stop and the three climbed out. Abbie walked back a few yards to see if she could find what Anthony had hit but came back empty handed.
"Fuck, what if it was an animal or something?" Anthony groaned.
"No, you would've seen it or heard it." Jake assured him.
"Let's just get back on the road and tomorrow we'll start training for our next and last fight with Thatcher." Jake spoke.
As Anthony did one final check Abbie pulled Jake to the side.
"You're really confident that this last fight with this Thatcher guy will be the last." She spoke.
"Well, Thatcher, Anthony, and I go way back. About ten years to be exact. Back than, we had four fighters and a mentor. Jax Williams, Lilli Aster, Hannah Fredds, Anthony Shoemaker, Jay Black, and me... Jake Waver. The first three and I, we used the four elements as our powers. Together we could take down armies in seconds. We were basically invincible... but then. Tragedy struck.
We were going on a city call, nothing to big, just a call about a strange guy lurking around. Yet, Jay seemed strange. As if he had seen a ghost. He told us four and Anthony to go back to the base and wait for him but as we were ignorant teenagers we stayed... nothing could've prepared us for what happened next.
As if Jay had never fought a day in his life. Thatcher took him down in just a few minutes. We managed to escape but soon Thatcher has cornered Jax, Anthony and I. Jax had recently lost his memory and couldn't remember barely anything. So as we fought Anthony and I were pinned against a car and were struggling to gain any ground. Than Thatcher brought in a tank and shot right at us. Anthony managed to pull me out of the range but... a large piece of shrapnel had imbedded itself into Jax's chest.
He died minutes later...." Jake mumbled, remembering the event in exact detail.
"Then when we had met back up with the girls I had to brake the news to them and Hannah took it terribly. She snapped and went off on this whole tangent on how I was supposed to be Jax's friend and how I had betrayed her trust. Before I could say anything else.. she took off and us three had... *rubs bridge of nose* had to go find her. We eventually found her and whilst we were on our way back Thatcher found us. He ripped us to shreds and killed Hannah in a matter of minutes." Jake looked away and wiped his eyes.
"That's why, I'm confident in us because what else would I do? If I didn't see a point in fighting I would've eaten a bullet years ago." Jake cleated his throat and walked towards the car. The three than headed back to the house and as the arrived the sun began to peak through the clouds.
Jake instantly set right to work without speaking to anyone.
