It was day two of the blizzard power outage. I don't remember falling asleep but I woke up still in my sweatpants and hoodie. I woke up with the hood over my head and curled up underneath the heavy royal purple blanket with the sofa bed folded out. I pulled my hand out of the toasty warmth of the blanket to feel Earl still curled up and asleep close by me. He was in a pair of dark red sweatpants and his robe, curled up underneath the dark blue blanket, he was snoring quit softly. I'm not sure what time it was but it was early. I kept the blanket wrapped around me and I put my sock covered feet onto the cold hard floor, causing a sudden shiver to go through my whole body. I walked into the kitchen, half eaten pizza was left in the pizza box on the kitchen table from yesterday. I opened the box and grabbed a cold slice of pizza to calm the growling my stomach. I munched on it as I peered out of the kitchen window that was covered in a thin sheen of frost from the outside. Everything was covered in glimmering snow and the sun was beginning to break through the clouds and rise. I went into my room and grabbed my cellphone and flipped it open, the time read 7:04 in the morning. The whole entire trailer felt frigid. Duke laid curled up underneath a quilt at the foot of the sofa bed. With the hoodie still on my head, I took a flashlight and headed towards the bathroom. After using the toilet and washing my hands with cold water, I suddenly remembered I hid Earl's Christmas gift underneath the bathroom sink. I bent over and opened the vanity sink cabinets and retrieved the little red gift bag that Earl's gift was in. I went back into the front room and climbed back into the bed but I couldn't sleep. I gently shook Earl awake three or four times till he stirred in his sleep. He groaned softly as he opened his eyes.

"Mornin' suga lips", he said sounding groggy, reaching up and rubbing his eyes. How you sleep?

"Pretty okay, I guess", I replied.

I gently placed the gift bag on his chest and gave him a smile.

He propped himself up on his elbows with a grunt.

"What's dis?", he asked.

"Merry Christmas.....well, belated Christmas", I said as I gave him a peck on the lips.

"Whatchu get me?", he asked.

"Open it", I replied.

He sat all the way up and dug his hand into the gift bag and fished out the metallic dark blue cologne box. He smiled at me when he saw what it was.

"Well, I be damned, my favorite cologne "Stormy Seas", he said. You ain't hafta do dis fo' me.

He opened up the cologne box and took out the dark blue cylinder shaped bottle with the silver top. He took the top off and sniffed it, nodding his head approvingly.
