Chapter 32: Movie Night
Sam
Days passed by uneventfully. Days turned to weeks and weeks quickly turned to months. School was going as alright as it could be, with Grant and Shawn leaving me alone for the most part. Occasionally they'd have something to say to me that wasn't so nice, but otherwise they just ignored me. Not that I was complaining about that.
We also hadn't really made any progress with the case against Sarah. She hadn't let me see Regal again since she found out I'm gay. I don't know why she was having such a hard time accepting me, but that's not my problem. It's not like I was trying to get her approval. I just wished I could see my little half-sister more often.
Things with Ryan have also been going pretty well. I was currently curled into his lap, trying my best not to watch the TV screen in front of us. For some reason, he and Courtney had insisted on watching a horror movie tonight. Me not being a fan of horror movies was the understatement of the year. Neither was Jaime, actually, but no matter how much we protested, we still ended up watching the scary movie.
It kinda helped that Ryan was running his fingers gently through my hair. It had a calming affect that only lasted about a minute before another jump scare happened.
One particularly gory scene had me tucking my face into Ryan's chest. I didn't want to watch anymore. I couldn't. This movie was too terrifying for me.
I felt Ryan chuckle, his fingers still running through my hair. "It's not that scary, hun," he said, just as the main character let out a harsh scream.
"How can you say that, Ryan?" Jaime spoke up from the other couch. "I can barely even stand to watch this. You do realize Sam's going to have nightmares now because of you, right?"
Ryan kissed the top of my head. "Not if I'm there to cuddle away all those bad dreams."
I sat up. "If that's the reason you wanted this movie, then you're a terrible person. Why am I even dating you?" Of course, I was only joking, just like I knew he was. I was just slightly irritated that he chose such a scary movie.
Courtney let out a sharp laugh at my words, but didn't lift her gaze from the screen. She was way too invested in the movie for her own good.
"Sam," Jaime spoke up. "Let's get more popcorn. Come on."
She grabbed the empty bowl in one hand and my hand in her other. I let her lead me into my kitchen, anxious to get out of the living room right now. That movie was putting me on edge.
"We don't have to go back in there," Jaime said, leaning against the counter while I grabbed another bag of popcorn. "Let them watch it on their own."
I nodded, tossing the bag into the microwave and starting it. "We'll take the popcorn too. They won't miss it."
I smiled when she laughed. "I like your thinking, Sam. Let's do it."
A few minutes later, we were sitting on the floor of my bedroom with a bowl of fresh popcorn between us and a Disney movie we've both seen a hundred times playing on my computer in front of us. This was so much better than watching a horror movie downstairs, although I didn't have my boyfriend to cuddle with now.
"So," Jaime started about ten minutes into the movie. "You and Ryan. Have you gone all the way yet?"
I almost choked on my drink, being in the middle of a sip when she asked. "What? Why would you ask something like that?" I'm pretty sure I was blushing pretty hard too.
She laughed, the movie suddenly forgotten. "'Cause I'm curious. Come on, Sam. You've been dating for a few months now. And I see how touchy-feely you guys are, with all your cuddling and kissing. And that's when people are around. I want to know the details when no one is around. Please?"
I sighed. "No, we haven't." That didn't mean we weren't working our way up to it. We've done quite a lot of touching and some mouth things... I blushed harder just thinking about what we have done. "We're waiting for the right time."
"Aw. That's sweet."
I quickly changed the topic before she started asking questions about how far we've gotten. "What about you, huh? Any guys catch your interest?"
She shrugged. "Not really. The only guy I liked turned out to be gay."
I knew she was joking, somewhat at least. She had liked me, but I thought she would have gotten past that by now. "Sorry," I muttered. I felt a little guilty for not being who she had wanted me to be. She was my best friend, and if I was straight, I'd definitely want to date her.
Jaime hugged me. "Don't be sorry. It's not like you chose to be gay. Besides, you and Ryan are adorable together. You deserve someone like him."
"You deserve someone too, you know."
She smiled, leaning her head against my shoulder. "I love you, Sam."
"Hey, he's mine."
We both looked up to see Ryan standing in my doorway. When I opened my mouth to say something, Ryan burst out laughing.
"You guys look like I caught you cheating or something. All I wanted was that popcorn we were promised."
I scoffed. "We never said we'd make more popcorn for you, hun." I glance down at the mostly-empty bowl. "Besides, we kinda ate it all."
Ryan hopped up on my bed behind me and laid down. His head was right next to mine, since Jaime and I had been sitting on the floor and leaning against the mattress. He then grabbed my earlobe with his mouth, gently rubbing his tongue around it.
I pulled away from him. "What are you doing?" I asked.
"Well if I can't have popcorn, I guess I just have to have you."
"Not while I'm still in the room, lover boys," Jaime said.
I rolled my eyes at her. It's not like we were making out in front of her or anything. All he did was bite my ear, although - admittedly - that was a little weird.
"Honestly," Ryan said, shifting so that his arms were draped over my shoulders. "I came up here because the movie ended. Courtney's asleep on the couch. Your poppa just got home so I ran up here before he saw me."
I looked at him, confused. "You ran away from Poppa? Why?"
"He looked kinda mad. Don't know at what. Now, whatcha watching?"
