Delilah POV
Having people look at you with all their attention is something not all people can get used to. As for me I was always use to people looking at me whenever I'm on stage. It didn't matter that countless number of eyes stared at me because they weren't really looking at me. They were under a spell of the music notes I played on my violin. All they saw was a blond-haired girl in a pretty dress with her eyes nearly closed as she played beautiful music. However, things were different now because I wasn't on some stage in front of an audience. Instead, I was sitting in a loveseat with my dad and uncle on left and three other vampires on right. It felt slightly intimidating that the Cold Ones looked at me with such curiosity with their golden eyes. Especially, from the one nearest to me the one that was supposedly my mate. I say 'supposedly' because he was too distracted by appearance to put up mental walls in his mind.
I know it was wrong to look in someone else's head without their permission. But, I was curious about him as he was about me. In his head I could see another version of myself except his version of me had brown hair. I could see that the last memories of her weren't good at all because she was sad really sad. The more I read into him the name of the other girl started to echo in my mind. Her name was, Solar. And she was his mate before, me. I wasn't hurt at all of what he was thinking and feeling about her. He was feeling guilt and everlasting sadness because of how her life ended. He had every right to because from what dad told me about 'soulmates'. I remember dad telling me that when two vampires from either type finds their mates they can never go without the other. If, they did then the end was inevitable because it would mean either suicide or depression. Depression would lead to starvation and eventual death or desiccation. And in Edward's case I dared not to invade further into his mind because I felt that he'll tell me when he was ready. Aside from his mind it made me wonder how he and I were mates when he already had one.
Dad, cleared his throat causing the silence between the six of us to look at him instead, of me. I sighed in relief that their attention was now off me.
"I know that my daughter's arrival has... opened emotional wounds that had barely started healing. But, I ask that you do not see her being someone other than, herself. Delilah, is what we here in Mystic Falls, a doppelganger. A perfect carbon copy of someone who already had passed on. In this case, at the very moment when she turned it was inevitable that Delilah's birth would happen", he said calmly and carefully.
"How did it happen, Elijah? How is it that a child like her can be both human and vampire?", asked Carlisle curiously. I looked at the blond doctor for a moment to see that he was in some sort disbelief what he was being told. It didn't take a telepath like me to know that he was the kind of man to be set in his beliefs.
"At first, I didn't know myself that there was a loophole or even a possibility that vampires like you or I can have offspring. But, the moment that I found, Delilah, was a miracle upon itself", he turned to look at me like a proud father would, "A gift to our race in a form of a beautiful yet, talented young girl. She even years after her birth knew that she needed drink human blood. Also, how to use her gifts to her advantage. I was amazed by her and felt the need to look after, her."
"So, he ended up raising me as his daughter", I continued on. Edward, looked at me for the first time in an hour. He had his walls built up so, I couldn't read into what he was thinking.
"But, if you knew that Solar had a doppelganger then, why didn't you mention it earlier to us? To me?", asked Edward. It was his turn to look at my dad with disbelief and something else. Perhaps, it was because it was the first time he said her name in half a year. Out loud.
Dad's eyes turned to look at him "I didn't tell you or the rest of your coven because you all were mourning. If, I had asked my daughter to come the minute that, I knew of Solar's suicide what would you have done? You would have thought that she had faked her death. Perhaps in some last-ditch effort in trying to get you to come back to her. Most likely you would have continued on staining Solar's memory by marrying that Swan girl. At the same time trampling all over my daughter's heart like it was nothing!", father yelled with poison in his voice. I could tell that dad was on the edge of killing him because his eyes had turned silver with veins seeping out. Edward, reacted equally in hostility because he shot up from his seat with his teeth bared. And crouched down, ready to attack.
"Elijah, Edward, please calm down! We don't need anyone here to be hurt much less killed. We can all talk about this in a calm manner" said Carlisle calmly.
