Chasity
Katrina smacked her lips at me as she crossed her legs, continuing to stare at me as I stood in the doorway of my closet, trying to decide on an outfit to wear tonight. After three long, agony filled hours of Katrina’s continuous begging, I finally gave in to going to the Fourth of July block party her cousin, Stephan, was hosting tonight.
At first, I was a little hesitant on going anywhere with Katrina because of what happened the last time I let her drag me somewhere. Supposedly, we were going to a birthday party for her younger cousin but she ended up changing plans on me at the very last minute. She had dragged me into a club—a club that was for ages 21 and over—and could’ve possibly got me injured or maybe even killed. That’s another story for another time though.
“Girl, will you hurry up and pick out a damn outfit? You act like you going to meet the President or some shit, just put on a shirt and shorts and call it a day.” Katrina complained, reaching into her back pocket and pulling out her phone. While I ignored her and continued to search for an outfit, she laid back on my bed and began to wrap herself up into whatever it was that was occupying her on her phone.
After a while, I finally decided on what I was going to wear. I pulled out a pair of black and gold cheetah print shorts and a solid black crop top that I just had recently bought. Throwing the outfit on the bed, I went to my dresser where my phone was. It had been vibrating for the past few minutes and as I unlocked, I wondered on who was blowing my phone up.
Sliding my finger across the green answer bar, I placed the phone between my ear and shoulder, holding it there as I went back over my closet to find some shoes. “Hello?”
“Hey Chas.” A semi-deep voice answered, resulting into the biggest smile to wipe across my face. I automatically recognized the voice as Tristan’s. Tristan was a boy I met back in my freshman year who I eventually developed a crush on over time. What attracted me to Tristan the most was his energetic, fun and charming personality. He wasn’t like most boys that lived in my neighborhood. He actually had a legal job, he had a certain swag to him that most boys, younger or older, couldn’t match and last but not least, his smile that could drive any girl insane. You could say he had it all.
“Hey Tristan!” I replied, still grinning from ear to ear.
Katrina smacked her lips once again before jumping off the bed and plastering a fake smile on her face. “Hey Tristan!” She mocked, clapping her hands like a little child. I picked up a hairbrush up off my dresser before throwing it at her. She dodged it quickly by ducking her head, causing the brush to hit the window. A loud screeching sound echoed throughout the room as the teeth on the brush scratched the glass.
Tristan cleared his throat. “Um, is everything good over there?” He asked.
I forget he was on the phone! “Oh yeah, everything’s good over here. I was just handling some unwanted guests, that’s all.” I slit my eyes at Katrina as she flipped me the bird and rolled her eyes. “Anyways, what’s up?”
There was a short pause on the phone before he answered. “I was uh, wondering if you were going to Stephan’s party tonight.”
“Yeah, I’m going with Katrina. What about you?”
“Yeah, I’ll be there with a couple of friends. Wanna meet up somewhere or something? I mean, that’s if you want to. I’m not pressuring you or anything.” I giggled to myself at how nervous he was getting. Tristan always did that and I always wondered why. Did I make him nervous or something?
