Chasity
I scrolled effortlessly through my Twitter notifications while my mother rambled on about something to one of her girlfriends on the phone. It was nearing seven thirty in the morning and since today was pretty much booked from start to finish, we had to get a head start on a few things. We had three radio interviews lined up for this morning, my third phone conference for the magazine and I had to make an appearance at my old high school then afterwards, we had to start on the tour of Glendale part of the documentary.
The film was set to premiere in the beginning of August, which was four and a half months away and I couldn't wait. The amount of work, time and patience to put this thing all together was more nerve-wrecking than trying to put together monthly issues of the magazine. I could just imagine how tired and exhausted Tyler and Eliza feels after a day of shooting.
"Hey shortie." Zeke greeted me, walking into the kitchen where Mama and I were seated.
"Hey." I replied back. "Where you headed off to?" I asked him, noticing he was casually dressed up.
He smiled and grabbed an apple off the center of the island top. "Kali and I are going out for breakfast this morning. She was off today so I thought I'd take her out."
"But you were supposed to come with me to my interviews this morning, remember?"
"I know, I know but I already told Kali to meet me in like thirty minutes." He told me, looking at me with an apologetic look on his face.
I inwardly rolled my eyes. "Who's this Kali girl? You've been spending a lot of time with her lately and I'm not too fond of it the least bit, just to let you know."
He shrugged. "She's just a friend, why?"
"I was just asking. I mean, since I'm your best friend and all, I thought you would've told me about her or at least let me meet her or something, but you didn't even do that. Some best friend you are." I rolled my eyes again and started scrolling through my phone again. All Zeke could do was laugh in reponse which made me a little upset because I was as serious as a heart attack.
"I'm glad you think this is funny ass face." He sucked his teeth as his laughter died down a little.
"Don't tell me you're jealous Chasity..." He reached over to grab my hand but before he could grab it, I pulled it away. "You're being really immature right now and it's for no damn reason; grow the hell up. If you really wanna meet her, I'll bring her around here sometime. Will that stop you from bugging for no reason?"
"I shouldn't have had to ask you do it, you should've been did it. And to answer your question, no I'm not jealous.I'm just not okay with the fact that my supposedly best friend is dumping me off on the side of the road for a girl he just met two damn weeks ago, but it's whatever." The hurt was evident in my voice and he quickly caught it.
"Alright, how about I cancel breakfast with Kali and come with you to your interviews. Would that make you happy?" He asked me.
"Don't even bother. Have fun on your date." Getting up from the table, I dumped the remainder of my breakfast into the trash and placed my dirty dishes in the sink.
"Where you going?" He called out to me as I left the kitchen with a frown on my face. I ignored him and headed off to my room to the bathroom to get showered and dressed.
I was more than aware of the fact that I was acting immature, but I had every right to act that way. This was the second time that Zeke had bailed on me for Kalifornia or whatever the hell her name was and didn't even apologize for it. Last night we were supposed to go out for dinner, but he bailed on me at the last minute. He left me sitting at the restaurant waiting and waiting. It wasn't until I called him to know that he wasn't coming. He didn't tell me why, but after hearing giggling in the background, my assumptions that he was with her were confirmed.
