Chasity

I tapped my fingernails against the cold surface of the bathroom sink as my reflection stared back at me through the mirror. I had to take a quick break from the signing because of the little outburst that went down a couple minutes ago. Shocked wasn’t the word to describe how I felt once I looked up and saw Tristan and Katrina staring right back at me. Glendale wasn’t a big community, maybe a roughly thousand people, so I had no doubt that I was going to run into them sooner or later. I just didn’t think that they would show up here.

Maybe if Katrina didn’t make that big and unnecessary scene in front of my fans and camera men, I wouldn’t have minded them, well, her, being there. Tristan was a complete sweetheart like I expected. What Katrina did was dead wrong and was completely out of spite. If she really wanted to, she could’ve pulled me to the side and told me what she needed to say in private, but no, she wanted to be rude and inconsiderate, practically ruining my meet and greet.

I had a feeling that she was still upset about what happened back a couple of years ago and I couldn't blame her. Though I would’ve handled things in a different manner, Katrina was only being herself. She hated when people did her wrong and dirty and she always felt the need to get back at them when they least expected, what happened tonight being a good enough example. I can wish upon a shooting star all I wanted to, hoping that I could take back all the hurtful things I’ve done back then, but in reality, I knew I couldn’t. The only thing I could do at this point was to move on and I just hoped that Katrina would do the same.

“Chasity, are you in there?” Following my mother’s loud voice, she knocked on the door for permission to come in, which was pointless because she walked right in. Closing the door behind her, I put the seat down on the toilet and took a seat. With her arms crossed and one of her eyebrows arched, she stood by the window, looking at me. I’m assuming she was waiting for me to explain, but what was there to explain? A verbal altercation broke out; that was pretty much self-explanatory.

Once she figured out that I wasn’t going to attempt to say anything, she spoke up first. “What was that all about Chasity? Why were you and Katrina out there acting as if y’all don’t have any sense? And why did she storm out here on the verge of tears? You better tell me something Chasity.”

“What is there to tell Ma?!” I snapped, a frown appearing on my face. I was starting to grow irritated by the second and nothing she was doing was making it better, if anything, she was only making it worse.

She scoffed and laughed a little. “I know one thing little girl you better drop that bass in your voice better I knock it out for you. I don’t know who in the hell you think you are, talking to me like you done lost your everlasting mind, but you better get it together and quick.” She said in a tone that let me know she wasn’t playing at all. “Now hurry and fix yourself up. You still have some girls out here that want a picture and an autograph from you.”

She glanced in the mirror once at herself, making sure that her hair and makeup was still intact. After she left, I went over to the sink and cut the faucet on, getting a palm full of cold water and splashing it over the surface of my face, in hopes of getting myself together. I grabbed a handful of paper towels from the automatic towel dispenser and dried my face, disposing of them afterwards.

Exiting the bathroom, I forced a smile on my face and headed to the front of the room and took my seat back at the table. Crouching down beside me, Tyler appeared alongside of me with a concerned look on his face. “Are you feeling alright? We can cut this meet and greet short if you’re not up for it anymore.” He told me.

I shook my head. “No, that won’t be necessary. There are still some fans I want to meet. I’m fine, honestly.” I assured him, smiling even bigger to try and convince him.
