I have decided to start a series of post about the story of Prophet Yusuf AS and lessons that we can take from it.
I chose this story to console people for a number of reasons.
First of all,
This story was revealed in the Year of Sorrow ('aam al-huzn) to console the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Prophet (P) lost his beloved wife Khadija RA, he also lost his biggest supporter and beloved uncle Abu Talib, both of died within few month apart. Also incident of Ta'if happened in that year which was the most difficult day in the life of Prophet (P). Another reason for the revelation was that the companions of the Prophet wanted something to uplift their spirits as well as they were going through persecution in Makkah at that time. So these incidents led to the revelation of this surah. Since Allah revealed this story to console his beloved Prophet and his companions, therefore I chose this Surah to console those who are hurting.
Secondly,
The story of Yusuf 'alaihis Salam is very encompassing and is one of the most inspiring and lesson-filled stories in the Qur'an. Not only does the story make an interesting read, but it teaches us vital lessons about many of the issues that we face in our lives today.
Thirdly,
T
his is my most favorite surah of the Qur'an. I love reading it, I love listening to its recitation, and I love to learn and teach the lessons this surah contains.
Whether you are feeling jealous towards others or you're a victim of injustice. You're in love with someone or struggling with your desires and temptations. You're hurt by loved ones or lost someone you loved dearly. Your children are disobedient, or you have complains about your parents and think they don't treat you well. You were treated unjustly by the people of authority, or you are in distress due to failures in life, you've committed sins and feeling guilty, or your iman is decreasing, and you feel far from Allah - it has the message for all. Many of you will be able to identify yourself with Prophet Yusuf's life. The story of Yusuf (as) is a guide to Allah (swt), and through reflecting on the lessons from this story, it will bring a source of relief for those in distress.
Now here is how this series of post is going to work. I quote the story of the Prophet Yusuf (Peace be upon him) directly from the Qur'an, and then explaining a story a bit, and then I mentioning 'real-life lessons' derived from those Verses.
I'm updating daily so make sure not to miss my updates and vote and share so that maximum number of people can benefit from it.
I would also like to make it clear that I am not muffasir or alima of the Qur'an and I am not deriving the lessons from my own understanding. All I am doing is putting together the lessons that I've taken from different authentic sources (lessons derived by the well knwn scholars) and presenting it to you. You're most welcome to share the lessons that you've learned from this surah to benefit others.
I ask Allah to accept this humble effort of mine and make it a source of guidance and relief for all of us.
Aameen
