~Chapter 9

Get ready cause it is time to meet the in-laws.

Here I am not knowing the exact words to say. I stepped into Tope's house expecting to see at least a little renovation like Ire's house but no now I am here staring at everything.
Everywhere looked so old and ancient there were mats all over the floor replacing where couches were supposed to be, there were mud pots filled with drinkable liquids which I'm guessing is not hygienic and the mud walls were actually peeling.

I think Tope caught my expression cause she just looked at me and said:
"Sorry but my Dad does not believe in giving the house a new look. He thinks of it as ruining our tradition" she said and gave me a slight smile. I looked over her shoulders to were Ire was standing and it was so obvious that Ire was trying not to laugh.
"Anyways it is not good to keep our guest standing" Tope said using her fake American accent for me. Great we are back to that again. She motioned for us to come and sit down on one of the mats, that is when I realise I'm wearing a white dress and I guess Ire saw it to cause she turned to me and gave me a small smile.

Tope was wandering what was wrong and just then she saw what I was wearing.
"I'm so sorry. Um... Arike get us a bench". She said calling for one of her maids.

After the maid got a bench we all made our way towards the bench and sat down.
"So what brings you to Nigeria?" Tope asked.
"I wanted to see my homeland I guess" I answered her weird question.
"Oh and how are you related to Ire?" She asked. Very dumb of her after Ire mentioned that I'm her cousin or is it that she doesn't believe Ire, well we would never know.
"Well Ire is my cousin her
Mom and my Mom are sisters." I said as a matter of fact.
"Oh so are you the daughter of Aunty Ashake or Aunty Omoronike?" She asked me.
"No I'm the daughter of Aunty Toriolorun" I told her and gave her one of my fake smiles. She froze for a second before adding,
"It is a lie she died years ago" she said shaking her head.
"Nope darling, did you kill her? We relocated after my Dad Toni died." I said.
"Wow Daddy must hear of this" she said happily jumping out of her seat.
"No you are not going to tell your Father any of this" Ire said calmly.
"And why is that?" Tope said giving Ire a dirty smirk.
"Cause you know why, my cousin will have nothing absolutely nothing to do with your family" Ire said standing up.
"Come on Pamilerinayo let's go" she said and I followed Ire as she walked out of the house.

Well that didn't go as planned I thought to myself.
"Ire what did you mean by saying 'I would have nothing to do with their family?' " I asked.
"Well if their Dad knows that I have a cousin who has schooled and lived in America... He will... betroth you to one of his sons" she said and sighed.
"What but he can't do that" I said angry.
"Well in this village when the rich want something they will do everything in their power to have it and that is what he is going to do" Ire said and that only left me dumbfounded.
"I'm sorry it was a bad idea I shouldn't have taken you there in the first place" she said but I didn't want her to feel guilty so I hugged her and told her it would be alright.
"Plus I'm not staying here permanently" I said and that made her lighten up a bit.
Then I noticed we were going the opposite direction from her house so I had to ask:
"Where are we going?"
"We are not finished with our tour and I'm not going to let some brat ruin my fun day with you so I'm taking you somewhere special" she said and grinned happily.
"And where might that be?"
"To Kayode's house".
Great I should have known this tour would be a bad idea now she is taking me into the house of the one she got beaten up for. The one that got her into a lot of trouble and might also get me into it if I continue following her. She is taking me to Kayode's house!!!
