"What? I don't understand, how are you an outcast. I thought Outcasts were mean and not nice but you are to nice to be an outcast" I said and that made her smile.
"Well for you to understand I have to explain it from the beginning but it is a long story". The woman said.
"Well we have all day" I said and smiled at her.
"Ok so my name is Rebecca Onkonkwo. Well I didn't just decide I wanted to live in this village" The woman said and that made us smile.
"I am igbo/ih-gb-oh/ (another tribe in Nigeria that also has their own language). I am from a village in Delta state. It all happened when a certain man from this village came to our village and was rejected by our people. I felt bad for the man so I secretly helped him by bringing him into my house and my parents had no clue that there was an outcast living in our house. I fed him and gave him extra clothes. And in that process we started talking and let's just say I was unfortunate to fall in love with him. By that time the secret was out and I couldn't keep him safe any longer so, we actually planned to get married thinking that he would get accepted into my village since his wife was from this village but that was not the case" she said and took a long gulp of water before she continued.

"We got married secretly without anyone knowing even my parents didn't know but that seemed to be the wrongest choice I made cause I didn't realise that interethnic marriages were forbidden in my village." She said as one tear slid down her face but she still continued.
"So when they found out we got married, they banished us from my own village, it was so painful and my parents couldn't do anything to stop me from being banished. Everybody in the village was disappointed in me because I let them down. So I left the village with my new husband and we went back to his own village which is this village. He promised me that they would accept me and we would live happily together but that was not the case when we came here. He took me into his house has a Maid" She paused and continued crying, I felt bad for her so I went to console her but she was so focused on finishing the story.
"I found out that he had already married 2 wives but by that time it was to late I was already pregnant. People started moving away from him because he married a woman from another village, an outcast. Since he was rich, he needed connections and power and he couldn't stand being ignored so he gave me money and told me to move far away from him and his family but... I didn't move that far. I built a house at the verge of the forest far away from other houses but I still live in the village. Only a few people know that I live here but they don't bother talking to me and they just ignore me. Last year as I was going to fetch water from the river when I met Ire. Ire volunteered to help me carry my bucket since it was to heavy for me. She came to my house and saw how untidy it was so she helped me by cleaning it up and she also gave me money out from her own savings. Since then she has been so nice to me and my family and on some occasions she comes to help me babysit Kayode just like yesterday." Rebecca said pinching Ire's cheek.

Ire looked at me but she was still frowning.
"What is it?" I asked Ire.
"Do you remember this morning when I said Tope and her family are wicked people?" She asked me
"Yah why?" I said answering her question with a question.
"Well because last year I found out that... Rebecca was... Tope's Father's third wife" she said and I was shocked!!.
I looked at Rebecca and said " It was him? It was their family that sent you away?" .
She nodded and said yes.
