Annabelle's POV

Still Five Years ago...

"Go hide, Baby. There's no surprise happening today", Mamma whispered as she walked hurriedly towards me, keeping her footsteps light to avoid creating a sound.

"But why, Mamma? Is that not Papà outside the door?", feeling my eyebrows furrowed due to confusion.

She shushed me, uttering the words with so much fear which made me trembling in cold feet "N-no, Honey. Not your Papà. T-they're--"
Bang!

She was cut short when a loud pounding at the door resounded, breaking the once deafening silence.

"M-mamma!" A loud shout broke me out of my frozen state as Adriano, at the age of only 16, stood in front us, covering us with his towering figure, as if he could shield us from the upcoming danger. The twins, only two years apart from adriano, stood on both of our sides acting as support.

Bang!

Grunts can be heard from outside. They're struggling to open the door.

The door can't hold out.

"Where are the guards?! Why aren't they stopping those brutes!" Lucio, the ill-tempered twin hysterically whispered, worry evident on his voice.

"They're dead." We all looked at Mamma, not believing her words.

"They can't be dead. At least, not all of them! There are twenty of them! They can't seriously be outnumbered!" It was Lucas who muttered this time. He swiped his hand on his face, clearly frustrated.

He's right. There are too many of them to defend us. Papà assigned them to us, knowing with their skills, they can protect us from harm. Unless, the foe is more trained compared to them.

Bang!

The moment they open that door will surely be our downfall.

Me and my brothers were suddenly enveloped with warmth as Mamma embraced us with all she had.

"You know where the bunker is, right?" she whispered to Adriano, the latter nodded in confirmation.

"Good. Lead your siblings in there, Hide and never go out. Do you understand me?" No one replied.

" I said, Do you understand me?" Her voice laced with authority, leaving us no option but to nod.

"Promise me, okay? Don't anger your Papà too much. He only wants what's best for all of you. He might come as a tough man to be reckoned with, but he'll crumble to his knees when any of you are harmed in any way." She pressed loving kisses in each of our foreheads, while muttering muffled words in each of us.

She whispered to Adriano, all the while petting his hair, tears running down her face. She proceeded to Lucio, her mouth moving as she caresses his face. Then comes Lucas, looking at him straight on the eye while delivering her message.

Then, it was my turn.

She holds my face with her dainty hands, kissing my cheek, "Expect Papà's overprotectiveness, Anna. You're his only babygirl. You have him wrapped around your little finger. Comfort him when he's troubled, hug him when he's in tears, hold his hand when he's cloaked with loneliness. Don't ever leave him alone, Honey."

Her face was now full of distress, tears continuously falling down her cheeks, her turquoise blue eyes that were once filled with sparkle, now looked dull and cloudy, red and puffy.

"We know you're in there, Lydia. Come out!" As the man outside knocks furiously, obviously angered of the current situation. "Open the fucking door or we break it down!"

Hearing no reply, He barks out, "Smash the door into smithereens, Boys!"

Bang!

Taking notice of the state of the door, Mamma ushered us towards the basement where the bunker is located.

Adriano clutches my hand while the other was holding the hand of Lucio and Lucio doing the same to Lucas.

We walked hand in hand heading to the bunker, ducking our heads to get inside the safety while Mamma anxiously stares at the door.

After all of us were tucked safely inside the bunker, we waited for Mamma to follow soon after.

We were shocked when we saw her standing near the doorway of the basement.

Her hand made its way to press a sequence of numbers on the operating device attached to the wall.

Only her and Papà knows the corresponding sequence, thus, only Papà could gain access in opening the bunker.

"Mamma! Come with us! Don't leave us!" Adriano yelled. Frustration in his tone.

I couldn't speak. My throat closed up. My eyes were filled with tears, as I look towards her. My eyes showing a desperate plea.

Stay here, Mamma.

After a few seconds, the bunker is beginning to close, Mamma was crying.

She couldn't risk to go with us or else it would be too suspiscious if the men found no one in the house.

It is either they catch only her, or all of us. And she chose the latter, she couldn't bear it if the children were to be harmed.

She'll take all the blow she could muster.

The bunker is soundproofed, not allowing any sounds to pass through nor the noise inside could be heard outside.

But still, it couldn't withstand too much force.

Before the bunker was fully close, we watched as Mamma muttered an, "I love you" Her mouth stretched with the broadest of smiles she could muster.

Her hand doing a small wave 'goodbye' while the other was trying to wipe her face free of tears.

Bang!

The door! I gasped.

And that was the last time we've seen her.
