Morning sun shining cheerfully through the blinds of the hospital room drew me from my sleep. Despite my aching knees still kneeling beside Peter's bed, I was the most comfortable I'd been in days. My arms were crossed on the side of the bed with my head resting on them and I didn't want to open my eyes, everything was too perfect. I didn't expect Peter to be awake, by I was quickly proven wrong when I did end up lifting my head because his gently chocolate eyes were watching me with a familiar twinkle in them.
"Goodmorning," he smiled, "Did you sleep well?"
I nodded and smiled. "What about you?"
"Oh, I didn't sleep. After all, I have been in a coma for a few days," he shrugged.
"Then what did you do?" I asked as I got up and walked over to the window to stretch.
"Just watched you as you slept and talked to a few nurses," he stated simply," one of the nurses told me that I was lucky to have such a loyal girlfriend." A blush darkened his cheeks and I was pretty sure that my face mirrored his.
"And what did you say ?" I said, moving back over to his side.
"I told him that he couldn't be more right," he whispered then patted the bed beside him, "Sit."
I did as I was told and sat. "Is that what we are then?"
"If that's what you want because I know I want us to be that."
"I want it too," I grinned and took his un-casted hand in mine.
Peter grinned and lifted my hand to his lips to kiss it.
"What a gentlemanly and beautiful boyfriend I have," I teased him.
"Who? Me?!" Peter batted his eyelashes dramatically drawing a care-fear laugh from me.
Now that we had defined our relationship, next came the hard part: telling my father who also happened to be Peter's boss/manager.
There were many reasons that this would be hard, so let me state a few. One, my dad is very protective and would give any boy dating me the worst time of their life so the fact that that boy happened to be a 'co-worker' of his wouldn't help. Two, he is also protective of Peter and Peter is kind of like his son so to him this might feel a little like incest. Three, there was a reason that I had to pretty much sneak around to hang out with Peter. Four, he didn't want anyone or anything to distract Peter from his job and this would classify as a large distraction. So let's just say our troubles weren't over.
* * * * *
A day went by before Peter was allowed to walk. He was eager and confident until his foot hit the floor and the rest of him almost followed. He would have been fine, but being the anxious person I was, I refused to let him walk without holding my arm along with the IV pole he was already holding.
"You're really ready to play the 'worried girlfriend' role, aren't you?" he teased.
"I was basically playing it already," I teased him right back.
He laughed and we continued down the hospital hall. At the end was a small waiting room with a beautiful view of the city. I could tell by how Peter stared out of it that he was thinking about Void, and just standing there in his black sweatpants and geeky t-shirt he still looked heroic somehow.
"I don't know how I'm going to let you ever leave my sight again," I said quietly, following his gaze.
"Hey," he whispered, his hand lightly resting on mine, "I'll stay in sight, but, I'm sorry, I can't promise much more than that."
"'I'll stay in sight' isn't much of a promise, but I'll take what little I could," I mumbled mostly to myself."
"Are you sure that you want to tie yourself further into this mess than you already are?" Peter asked.
I nodded. "I'm already as emotionally invested in everything that's happening as anyone could be, becoming your girlfriend just gave me more of a right to worry. Not that I wasn't drowning in anxieties before, it's just now no one can tell me I can't."
"That makes me feel really great that you're 'already drowning in anxieties'," Peter said.
"Oh come on, it's not like I'm good at hiding it," I jokingly smacked his arm.
"You got to quote me, I get to quote you," Peter held the hand up that wasn't resting on my arm, "it's only fair."
"Dork," I snorted, "we should probably get you back into bed."
Peter stuck out his bottom lip and gave me puppy-dog eyes.
"As cute as you are, Mr. Parker, that's not going to work. Come on."
"If I must," he sighed, but obediently took my arm and followed me.
We were halfway back to his room when we say my father, Tony Stark. I felt Peter tense on my arm when he saw him like he was doing something wrong, which he obvisouly wasn't. I knew I was tense too, so I was pretty sure that he was nervous because of our new 'secret' relationship status.
He was resting at the nurse's station, probably asking for our whereabouts because when he saw us he thanked a nurse and moved in our direction.
"What a cute couple you two make," he said sarcastically.
"Thank, Mr. Stark," I smiled cheesily.
My dad opened his mouth to say something, but before he could the whole hospital shook and people started screaming.
