Ashley POV

I heard a commotion and ran towards it. When I reached, I saw Conrad calming down a young women.

"Hey, hey, hey. See these? See these?" He showed her Palm which had infection.

"Is it OD?" I asked. "Yes, Oxy" the nurse replied. Conrad at last calmed her down.

I went forward to check her when she came crashing down. I caught her as she fell.

"Get a crash cart!" I shouted. Her family were crying and shouting. "Get them out of here" Conrad ordered and the nurses did.

"She needs compressions" I said. "You're running the code" Conrad said to Devon.

"I've never run a code" he replied. "Do you want an amp or bicarb?" Irving asked as he held the patient.

"We are losing her pulse" I said checking it. "He's in charge" Conrad said. Devon took a note to code when Conrad pulled it down.

"What is the first question you ask in a code?" Conrad asked.

"Rhythm" Devon crouched beside the patient. "What's her rhythm?"

Conrad pulled me up towards him. Telling me not the help him.

"Should we shock?" Irving asked. "No we can't. Her rhythm's not shockable. Get me one of epi. Make those compressions harder and faster. Prepare to intubate" Devon said.

Me and Conrad looked at each other knowing what he was doing.

The epi has been continuously giving the patient compressions.

"It's been 24 minutes. It's time to call the code" Conrad said.

"No!..this is my code. You gave me this code. She's 21 years old" Devon said.

"Devon!" I tried but he didn't listen to me.

"Harder man, you need to feel the ribs crack" he said.

"That's enough" Conrad said. "No, move" Devon was stubborn as he did the compressions.

"I'm not giving up" he said sternly. "I said that's enough" Conrad shouted. Still he didn't stop.

The heart monitor was flatlining and beeping loudly. Suddenly it stopped.

"We got the pulse" the nurse said.  I placed my hands on my face.

"You saved her life"the epi said to the intern. Devon came towards us.

"Her end tidal CO2 was less than 15 for the entire code" Conrad said.

"That doesn't necessarily mean.." Conrad cut him.

"Yes, it does. She's been without oxygen to her brain for 26 minutes" I said. He looked at me.

"Congratulations, you got her heart beating again, but she's brain dead" Conrad said yanking him walking away.

I sighed and looked at him. I placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's okay. But you did a good job" I said.

Now the hospital is gonna keep her saying she's in coma and they are gonna get a very high profit.

I entered Lily's room. "Hey there, my favourite" I said. She gave a bright smile.

"Aww...even looking at you  makes me  wish to live more" she said as I sat on her bed.

"You will live more" I said. She shuddered. "Will I?" She asked.

I placed a hand on her cheek. "You will. I promise" I said.
