Ashley POV

"Dr. King you are needed in ER immediately" I ran as fast as possible.

Once I was there a patient strolled in struggling in pain. "What is it?" I asked.

"Alex Hall, 28 chronic back pain" the nurse said.

"Get me an Epidural" I said. "Hey Alex, I'm gonna give you a painkiller alright"I said.

"It's too painful" he cried. The nurse handed me the injection.

Just I was about to inject him something masked my sight.

"Save me Ash, Save me. I want to live" Lily cried.

I shook my head to get it off. My hands struggled and shivered. My body started to sweat and shake. My breathing became shallow.

I took few steps back. "Dr. King?" The nurse asked. "Get Devon!" I said.

"Dr. King..." I cut her off. "GET DEVON!" I shouted. Devon came running in.

Guess he heard all the shouting. "Ash, what happened?"

"He's suffering from chronic back pain. Inject him with the painkiller" I said. He took it from my hand and inject the patient.

The patient stopped struggling. I sighed in relief.

I was immediately out from there. "Ash?" I could hear Conrad calling me. But I ignored him.

I entered a room and he came in closing the door. "Ash, are you alright?" He asked.

I made my breathing stable. "Yeah, I'm fine"

He placed a hand on my back. "Hey, I know what you're going through. We tried our best" he said.

Tears started flowing down my face. He held my face. "Her last words to me were 'Save me, Ash'....and I couldn't do it" I cried.

He looked at me in pity. I wiped my tears off composing myself.

"What happened with Jacoby?" I asked.

"The results came back normal. But she's a vegan. So I'm thinking of vitamin B12 deficiency" he said. I nodded. He placed his hand back on my face.

"Ash, you must rest. You look so stressed" he said. I closed my eyes.

"I tried. I couldn't sleep" I said. He gave me a worried look. He already has to mourn for Lily. I'm only making it difficult.

"I should go" I said. He tried to say something but I was out of the room before that.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

"What do you mean Psych eval?" I asked Conrad.

"She was wandering around talking to herself. They'll keep her there for 72 hours" he said.

"Looks like B12 didn't work?" I said. Devon joined us.

"Given your multiple knee surgeries, you should really..."

"Did you pull my medical history?" Conrad cut him.

"Johnson in Orthopedics has this boot...." Devon started again.

"NO!" Conrad said stubborn. "Fine! But I won't quit" Devon said walking away.

"Just like the mentor" I said when an idea popped in my mind.

"Hey Devon!" I called him. He looked at me. "We need your help" I said.

Me and Conrad looked at each other. "It must be him, they'll find if it's me" I said.

"What?" Devon asked. "I'll see you outside" I told to Conrad. Devon looked at me confused.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I saw Conrad walking with Jacoby and went towards them.

"There she is. Now you're also a part of all Conrad's doings. Getting me out saying I have brain bleed" she said.

"We just wanted to get you out. And talk to us" I said as we walked. Conrad limping actually.

"So about your Ghosts. You think the ones you see are real?" Conrad asked.

"Oh, that's a complicated question" me and Conrad smile as she sat down on a bench and so did Conrad.

"They... they're real as human regret or guilt. I keep thinking they want something. Are they angry? Or do they blame me? Sadly they can't speak" she said.

"So what I want most of all is yo inform mistakes. And I can't" she added.

Me and Conrad looked at each other. I crouched in front of her while he slided near her.

"Dr. Jacoby. Depression is a very powerful illness, we all know  that" I said.

"Would you consider the possibility that depression with psychotic effect could lead to...."

"Hallucinations. Yeah" she completed.

"Well, I have a good reason to be depressed. My career is over, my best years are behind me, and.." Conrad cut her off.

"You've had a wonderful career. Broken down barriers. Trained so many doctors" he said smiling pointing at both of us.

"You are an inspiration. And you saved so many lives" I said.

"But I lost so many as well. I carry around a small cemetery in my brain" she said.

"You took on the riskiest cases and had so many triumphs" Conrad said.

"Yeah, well, joy leaves too quickly and sorrow rudely overstays" she said.

"For 40 years you've been doing it. All outcomes are not perfect. Let's hope the good outweighed the harm" I said. She looked at both us.

"No amount of talk is going to change the past, my dears. There are some memories you can't escape." She said.

"Did he say he's done?" I asked Nic. "Yeah, he and Bell had a confrontation. He's going before Bell kicks him out" she said.

"He can't do that. Jude is one of the best surgeon" I said. Conrad came riding a scooter.

"Are you planning to tend that leg?" Nic asked.

"It's nothing" he replied. She looked at me. "Don't look at me. You know he will not listen. Don't make be the bad girlfriend" I said.

"Jacoby is leaving. Thought I should get you" he said. I nodded and we walked out.

"She looks pretty hopeless" I said. "Um...I kind of took care of it. With Mina's help" he said.

"That's good" I said. He rode forward in his scooter.

"Damn, Devon is really good. He did get you a scooter" I said.

"He is. He saved Lily once. I lost her. He was a good doctor to Lily than me" he said.

"Conrad, that doesn't mean..." He cut me off.

"Don't. You know that's the truth" he said riding the scooter futher. I just followed him not saying anything.
