Chapter 22

Ashley POV

Me and Conrad watched as the taxi to pick up Dr. Jacoby came in.

"You really need to get that looked at Conrad" she said referring to his ankle. He smiled.

She looked at me. "You are still that wonderful young girl I taught. You need to rest my dear." She said.

"Spoke to our head of psychiatry. She offered to start seeing you herself next week. Depression needs to be fought head on." Conrad said.

"The world needs more doctors like you" she said to both of us.

"Which is why I've decided to go back to teaching" she added.

"That sound perfect Doctor.  A way to let go of the past" I said.

"Live forward with purpose. And forgive ourselves" she said. Both me and Conrad looked at her confused.

"You lost someone as well..hmm?... Recently?" She asked. I exhaled loud while Conrad nodded.

"Then you need to live forward, too. Cause I see a very colorful life ahead. For both of you" she said.

Me and Conrad stood in silence listening to her. She went to get inside the car.

She got in and the drove off. Me and Conrad looked as the car faded away.

I was sitting on the bed in Lily's room. Or was.

Her images clouded my mind and tears clouded my eyes. I hear a knock on the door.

"Jude, Nic just told me. I'll get Conrad. We'll talk to Bell" I said.

"No no no...Ash. I think I've done enough here. Guess I need a change" he said.

"But Jude.." he cut me off. "Trust me. I'm good. At least the part that I kinda made a scene with Bell in the OR. You should have seen his face" both of us chuckled.

"Ash, I'm really about Lily. I heard you were her favorite" he said. I looked at the bed.

"Thank you" I replied. "So, I'll see you soon Resident" he said.

"See you soon, surgeon" I said. He gave me a smile and walked out.

There was an iPad in my hand. I opened it and Lily's face popped up. I touched her face slowly.

I noticed Conrad on his scooter. He slowly got out and leaned on the door frame.

"Just say the words, Con" I said. He exhaled heavily. "My ankle is killing me" he said.

I walked towards him. "You want me to see it?" I asked sitting down to his foot's level.

"No, I want to go home" he said. It was clear that he was in pain.

"Come..." I put his arm around my shoulder. "I'll drop you home. That thing would take you three days" I said referring to his scooter. He chuckled.

We reached his house. "Stairs are fun" he said wincing in pain.

"We're here" I said entering here. He slowly limped towards the couch.

I took out the ice packs from the fridge and the first Aid from cupboard.

I took them and sat in front of him in a chair. "Have you even been here?" He asked.

"Once. Give me your leg." I said. He gave me a look. "Come on. I'm not gonna hurt you. I promise" I said.

He placed his leg on the table. I removed his socks and his ankle was pretty bad. There was a large black mark.

"You should have let Devon see it" I said as I wrapped his leg with a band. I could feel his eyes on me.

"Ash, I should have listened to you. Believed you" he said. I didn't say anything. I finished wrapping his ankle.

"Ice it every hour. Put an anti inflammatory" I said standing up.

Conrad POV

"Ash, please" I stopped her. I stood up and went near her.

"I cannot do this...." She cried. "I don't have anything to say" she said.

I held her face. "You don't have to. It was my mistake. I should have listened to you" she looked at me tearful eyes.

"Lily's gone. It's crushing us. It was my mistake"

"I'm sorry. For everything." She Pulled me and wrapped her hands around me. I held her.

"I miss her. I miss her so much" she said unwrapping herself. I pushed a strand of hair. We placed our foreheads against each other.

I kissed her head slowly. She just stood there shedding tears. I wiped them.

I slowly leaned and placed a tender kiss on her lips. She kissed back. I could feel her body relaxing.

I removed her jacket slowly and she did the same to mine. She pulled me closer as we fell on my bed kissing passionately.

I pushed a strand of hair off her face as she slept peacefully.

At last she rested. I leaned forward a placed a kiss on her head.

I looked up and saw a vision Lily. Looking at me as if telling me avenge her.

Me and Ash stood in front of the large screen watching the hospital's new promo.

"Healing hands and spirit of care. Chastain Memorial Hospital. Incredible things are happening here" Bell said in the screen.

"You got to be kidding me" I said. "Incredible things?" Ash scoffed.

Bradley came running in. "Mina told me to find you. Dr. Bell just started the lipoma excision on your patient" he said.

"Turner was scheduled for that" I said. "He's out sick. Stomach flu" he informed.

"Doesn't he have a latex sensitivity?" Ash asked.

"You're right. I need to check on him, and Bell" I said walking. Ash got my hand.

"Hey, go slow on your ankle for a day" she said. "Which ankle?" I smirked. She smiled.

Ashley POV

"A lawsuit? I've never seen Lily's family in the last two years she had come in and out?" I said to Nic.

"No, Ash. This isn't about that. It's about me. They want a scapegoat and I'm it" she said.

"Nic... we'll do everything we can  to get this right alright?" I said. She nodded.

"Oh and did you here about the fire?" She asked. I looked at her confused.

"What fire?" I asked. "Bell's fire. In ER" she said. I raised my eyebrows.

"He set a patient on fire?Are you serious?" She nodded.

One of the nurses came towards us. "Dr. King, Ms. Thrope wants to meet you in her Office" she said.

"Right, now they want you in it" Nic huffed. I nodded at the nurse.

"We must get those autopsy results. Only then we can get Lane" I said.

She nodded. Why am I feeling something is not right?
