Ashley POV
Me and Conrad were going through Nigel's old medical records.
"Man that guy has been in pain for a decade" I said. "Yeah, pathetic. I'm sure Wilmot is gonna make him run away from this hospital" he said.
We saw Devon entering Nigel's room with tubes. "What are you doing?" Conrad asked.
"Wilmot ordered me to put an NG tube in Nigel" he said.
"Come on Devon" I tried. "He could have all three of us cut from the program" he said.
"Oh, man up. Where's all that bravado you had on Independence day? What happened to 'when someone's wrong, I'll be the first one to tell 'em?" Conrad asked.
Devon gave a small smile. "Well....I'm not so sure Wilmot's wrong" he confessed.
I looked between the Resident and the Intern. Conrad clicked his tongue.
I entered Nigel's room where they both followed me. Nigel was lying on the bed.
"When you asked for 24 hours, I didn't realize it would put me closer to planning my own funeral. You said you could help me. Now I'm worse off than when I came in?" He directed them to Conrad.
He gave an apologetic look. "Nigel..we are sorry what happened. But we are gonna get it done better alright?" I spoke up.
"How?" He asked. I opened his cabinet and took out his clothes. I handed them to him.
"Do you trust Dr. Hawkins?" I asked crouching near his bed. He looked at Conrad.
"Yes. And God knows why" he said. I placed my hand on his.
"Dr. Hawkins is gonna take you out of here and he's gonna talk to you alright. I want you to tell him everything, so that we might find what is wrong with you" I said and looked at Conrad.
He gave a small nod. Nigel nodded too.
"Thank you" I said and I stood up. I walked out with Devon following me.
"What did you just do?" He asked. "Wilmot cannot test a patient,if he cannot find him. And trust me, Conrad will find what is wrong with him" I said.
"How are you so sure?" He asked. "Cause he's the best"

I was in cafeteria drinking coffee when someone came and stood beside me.
"Dr. King. Pleasure to meet you" he said. He was an old man.
"I'm sorry. Do I know you?" I asked. "I'm sure you don't. I'm Marshall. Father of one of your colleague's Dr. Hawkins" my eyes went wide.
"Oh..please have your seat. Conrad never told me you were in town" I said.
"No surprise. He hates me. I wanted to talk to you about something" he said. I reminded silent telling him to continue.
"I know my son is having a pretty tough time here. Based on my research on medical field. He just loves to help his patients. Guess the surrounding is not allowing him to do so" I looked down. He was indeed correct.
"So has it to you. I know you've been trying too." I gave a small smile.
"Dr. King, I am opening a private hospital. And I want my son to run it. In his own way of treating patients and training Interns. I think you would be a great asset. You could work with him. After your Residency here" he said.
I didn't know what to tell. "I'll give you time. This is my card. You can find me" he handed me the card and stood up from his chair.
"Did you tell Conrad about this?" I asked. "I will. Thought I'll do the easy part first" he said and walked away.
That was unbelievable. Guess what Conrad will think about it?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Me and Conrad we're viewing the operation on Nigel. Apparently he has MALS.
We didn't talk anything as we were quite focused on the operation.
Dr. Fleck was treating him. "Okay. If Dr. Hawkins is right, and this is MALS, the minute this numbing agent hits that Celiac ganglion, you're gonna feel instant relief" Fleck said.
We were quite nervous. Conrad slipped his hand into mine. He looked more nervous than me. I held his hand tightly.
Fleck slowly injected the agent into Nigel. We looked into it in the monitor.
"How you feeling?" Fleck asked Nigel once he finished injecting.
"Pain free....The first time over a decade" he said giving a shaky laugh.
Me and Conrad sighed in relief. Nigel looked at us, tears flowing giving us a thankful look. Both of gave him a happy smile.
"You did it" I whispered. He shook his head. "No. We did it" he said. I gave him a wink.
"Come, let's celebrate our victory" I said as we walked out of the viewing room.
We walked out when Wilmot called us. "Hey! Where the hell have you both been?" He asked.
"Patient's fine, by the way. Thanks for asking. Turns out he has MALS. Surgery's scheduled for next week after his final show" Conrad said and pulled me when Wilmot caught hold of my arm.
"Hey...you both think you're do damn smart." He looked at Conrad.
"You know, one of these days you need to play God with the rules is gonna cost a patients life. And when that happens, there'll be a long line of us ready to make sure your medical career goes up in flames" he threatened.
He then looked at me. "And you. Nigel was never your patient. You like to play over ambitious don't you? You will also end just like him. Medical career torn" he said.
"Dr. Wilmot, the patient was..." I tried but he Conrad cut off.
"Don't. He doesn't even deserve to hear your voice. Dr. Wilmot, can I make one thing clear. Dr. Ashley King here saves at least two patients everyday. Give or take one. If you count the number of patients she has saved, I'm sure it's more than the number you've saved from your internship. Try getting her out from this hospital" I gave a small smile.
He know how to impress women. "And incase of my medical career. One man against an army. Now you're talking my language. That gets me existed. You know what else gets me existed? Knowing that if your hand is still on her in three seconds, you'll be waking up I'm the ER with no memory of how you got there" my eyes went wide.
Wilmot took his hand off my arm. Conrad gave him a sharp look and took my hand pulling me with him.
I don't know why..but that felt too good.
