Chapter 20

Ashley POV

I slowly opened my eyes as I could feel someone shaking me slowly.

I couldn't open my eyes fully. With much difficulty I opened.

It was Nic and Devon. I slowly sat up. I was still on the couch of yesterday night.

"Ash, are you alright?" Nic asked. "Yeah. Should have drifted out an hour ago" I said my voice coarse.

"You were hear all-night?" Devon asked. "Yeah...after Lily..." Tears formed on my eyes.

"I couldn't go home. I couldn't sleep" I said rubbing my face. She slowly rubbed my back.

"I should go home." I whispered. I slowly stood up and so did the two.

"It'll take some time for me to come back. Can you manage an hour?" I asked Devon.

"Ash are you kidding? You've been continuously working. You didn't sleep last night. You need rest" he said.

"No, I'll be back. I cannot stay alone home. I cannot. Just an hour. I'll be back" I said. He nodded. I walked out and head home.

Conrad POV

I entered the hospital with a killimh pain in my leg. I ran into a biker. And hurt my leg.

"God, what happened to you?" Irving asked as I entered the hospital.

"Nothing" I answered. "You look like you got him by a truck" he said.

"I'm fine" I took a tissue to wipe the dirt off me.

"Let me run an X-ray just to make sure.." I cut him off.

"Sprained tibiofibular ligament. Twisted ankle. No necessary"

"Put it in air stirrup for support" he said. "I said in fine!" I shouted. He left me.

I walked past a room to notice someone familiar. "Dr. Jacoby" I said entering in.

"Conrad Hawkins. How wonderful. You were one of my favorite students. You work here now?" She asked.

"Third year of my residency. Internal medicine. Ashley's here too. You remember, Ashley King?" I asked.

"Oh, that beautiful young girl. I always knew she would become a good doctor. Isn't she?" She asked. I smiled.

"She's amazing" I replied. She noticed my leg.

"You're hurt"

"I fell. Running. It's no big deal" I answered.

"Oh. Exercise. Myself, I avoid it." She said. "That's good advice. I could've have used that an hour ago" I said. She smiled back.

"Are you okay? Why are you here?" I asked.

"I see ghosts" she said and looked at the floor as if seeing something. I looked at her confused.

I walked towards the room where Lily was. Nic and Devon were inside. Ash was nowhere to be found

Nic was complaining about how she should have been there for Lily. "It wouldn't have made a difference" I said.

"She arrested, we coded her. Too long. Tried everything." I said. Nic got up and walked outside.
