Chapter 15

Ashley POV

Me and Conrad stood at the top of the balcony looking as the hospital fundraiser was going down.

We saw Mina stuck there. Though she wore a beautiful dress. "Ah, look at poor Mina. I wish I could throw a lifeline" Conrad said.

"What?" I asked.

"Why don't you go down there? Help her out?" He said. I looked at him with hard eyes.

"Let me give you a deal.  You go down there. I'll join you." I said. He chuckled.

"I'll instead have a colonoscopy" he said. We both chuckled.

"Well if you consider it a date..then.."

"Seriously Con, you want our first date to be a hospital fundraiser. Thank God I didn't make it official with you" I said. He gave a big smile.

"Yeah, on that official part...working" He said.

"Work harder" I whispered and patted his shoulder. He caught me hand.

"Come, we have work" he said. We both turned around to go inside when I heard something down.

I looked down and saw a women who looked so sick walking into the fundraiser.

"Con" I said when he came and looked too. She came strolling down with her dirty clothes. She suddenly hit on a table and fell down unconsious.

Me and Conrad went down as fast as we could. By the time we reached her Bell was already looking out her.

"She's got a pulse, it's very slow" Bell said. I checked her pupil. "Pupils are equal and reactive" I said.

Lane got all the guests to give us space. "I need a C-collar and backboard now" Mina said.

"Okay, well, let's get this-this poor soul to our ER, and uh, just keep me posted on how she's doing" Bell said as we took her inside the hospital.

We strolled her into the ER. "They're in here. They're in here" she kept on saying pointing her ear.

We tried talking but she couldn't respond." In my head, get them out. My ear..." We got her into the ER.

"Here, I'll take the bags" Nic said taking the patient's bag. Conrad and the other patients took her and placed her on the ER bed.

Irving entered. "What for we got?" He asked. Conrad checked her ear as I checked her pulse.

"Jane Doe, 20s Collapsed from syncopal episode with blunt head trauma, multiple abrasions, and a forehead laceration" Mina said.

"And one hell of an ear infection" Conrad added. "She has a feeble pulse" I said.

"Not seeing an ID" Nic said. "She needs an altered mental status workup and a lac repair." Conrad said.

"Trauma panel, EKG, chest X Ray and head CT" I added.

Nic went. Another patient entered fully bleeding. "Keep working here, I'll grab that" Irving said.

Me and Conrad looked on to our patient from outside. "Her head CT and drug and alcohol screen came back normal" Conrad said.

"I think she's altered from an underlying psych disorder" I said. "We need a medical reason to admit her" I added.

"She does have an area of pneumonia on her X Ray. Plus the ear infection, but, technically, we should just discharge her on oral antibiotics for that" he said.

"Yeah, no, we can't do that. That's not right" I said. Both of us just stood there thinking what we can do.

"I remember her saying she felt severe chest pain before she collapsed, don't you?" He smirked.

I raised my eyebrows. "Yeah, yeah, I'm sure I heard her too. That will get her admission" I said smiling.

"Then chest pain it is" he said walking away.

Me and Conrad went to check on our mystery patient again. We saw Nic inside with her.

She looked kinda off. She noticed us and came outside.

"I think Jane Doe was dropped off by another hospital" she said.

"Hospital dumping homeless patients not only pisses my off, it's illegal" Conrad said. Nic handed me something.

"That's an EKG lead" I said. "Yeah, and I know excatly where it's from" Nic said. Both of us looked at her.

"They've done it before" she said. Another patient came in.

"I'll see to that. Just figure this thing out" I said. Both of them nodded.

The new patient pretty much hanged me up. He had a car accident and pretty much need all help.

Once I got her shifted. I went in search of Conrad. I saw him, Nic and Mina coming out from the patient's room.

"Hey, got anything on her?" I asked as we walked.

"Yeah, our Jane Doe is Sara Ravenscroft. She's the daughter of Lawrence and Veronica Ravenscroft. They're wealthy philanthropists out of Savannah" Conrad said.

"What the hell? Then how did she end up living on streets?" I asked.

"According to one of the Savannah gossip blogs, Sara is estranged from her family." Mina said.

" She left town a couple months ago to become an artist" Conrad  said.

The pagers started to beep. "You get that, I'll check on Sara" Nic said.

"Mina, you've got something else to deal with" Nic added smiling. "What?" Conrad asked.

"Pressing surgery?" A certain lovesick transplantee has something wrong with his scar" I scoffed.

"Damn! I knew this was coming. Micah's doing a great job" I said.

"This is a waste of the. You know his scar is fine" Mina opposed.

"Mina, you know Micah had feelings for you. If you want them to go away, you've got to deal with them" Nic said.

Mina sighed, turned around to leave. "Be gentle" Conrad said.

"Did you know about that?" I asked Conrad. He shook his head saying 'no'

I saw Devon sitting alone. "Hey, didn't catch you. Are you alright?" I asked. He shook his head.

I entered in and sat beside him. "What happened?"

"It's just my parents are in town. And..it's been difficult. With Priya and her parents and everything" he said. I understood what he was going through.

"Devon, I don't know what is going on between you and your parents. But, tell me one thing...didn't your parents sacrifice many things and stuff for you?" I asked. He looked at me.

"You've worked hard to be in this position. But they've also shed sweat. You should be proud of them because I'm sure they are very proud of you" I said.

"You'll know the value of few stuff, only after you lose it. You're parents come under that category. Trust me" I said.

He nodded. I rubbed his back. I stood up and walked out.

"Ash" he called me. I turned and looked at him. "Thank you" he said.

"Anytime"
