I ran in the door tripping over my own feet and I fell to the hard wood floor. "Haylie?" My dad came in from the kitchen but I ignored him and picked myself up, running up the stairs. "Haylie what's wrong?" He asked following me up the stairs.
"Dad I have to go." I said quickly grabbing my suitcase and luggage bag.
"What are you talking about?" He asked watching me as I opened my closet and grabbed a bunch of clothes.
"I can't explain it now." I said in a rush stuffing my clothes in the suitcase. "I just have to leave." I moved around the room grabbing underwear, pyjamas, jumpers and other clothing.
"Your not going anywhere? Explain this to me. Why did you and detective Stevens break Derek out of jail?" He asked and I shook my head going into the bottom of my wardrobe. I grabbed the necklace and shoved it in my pocket. I also grabbed the letter my mother wrote me, the letter Josh wrote me, and the picture of me and my mother at the dance studio. I shoved them on top of the clothes in the suitcase and zipped it back up. I hadn't realised my dad was still talking.
"Dad!" I yelled and turned to face him. "I don't have time to explain! I need to leave now!" I said and moved to grab toiletries. I shoved them into my luggage bag and turned back to my dad. "I'm in danger dad and if I don't leave now someone who is looking for me is going to kill me." I said and moved to my desk grabbing my purse and phone charger.
"Kill you? Haylie slow down! Who wants to kill you?" He asked in a panic but I just shook my head and finished packing the luggage bag. "Haylie stop!" He shouted when I dropped the suitcase to the floor.
"I can't talk about it right now! I have to leave otherwise I'm going to die! Trust me! Stiles will explain when he gets back." I said and pushed past him with the bag on my back and the suitcase by my side. "I'll call when I'm somewhere safe." I said as he followed me down the stairs.
"Haylie just stop!" I turned around to face him once I reached the bottom of the stairs. "Please just take a breath and explain." He said slightly afraid of what I was doing. Before I could answer the front door burst one and I dropped my bags but it was only Josh.
"Josh." I breathed and tried to calm my heart rate.
"You've packed?" He asked looking at my bags and I nodded. I opened my mouth to speak but was cut off by Derek walking in to the house as well.
"What's going on?" My dad asked. I looked to him and suddenly felt guilty for all the times he's asked what's wrong, what's going on, who somebody is. I've never been able to answer him most of the time. And I didn't have time to answer him now.
"Haylie you can come with me. We can go and I can protect you." Josh said and grabbed the suitcase placed on the floor.
"She isn't going anywhere!" My dad yelled and Derek sighed.
"If you love your daughter then you'll let her go!" Derek yelled and I looked to my dad. He was torn between himself and confused about what he should do. He turned to me and pleaded with his eyes to understand. I didn't know if I could do this to him. Leave him here with stiles and no explanation.
"Haylie." I turned to Derek and saw he was begging for me to go. He had blood on his face and pain I'm his eyes. Without another word I moved to my dad and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I love you." I whispered and he held me tighter. I reluctantly let go and followed Josh out to his car. Derek was close behind me and stiles jeep pulled up.
"Haylie!" He yelled jumping out and running towards me. I dropped my bag and met him with a tight hug.
"You need to tell dad." I said and pulled away to see tears In my brothers eyes. "He's so confused you need to explain to him why I'm leaving." I said quickly and tried to wipe away his tears. "I'm going to be okay Stiles." I said and he shook his head before pulling me into him again.
"Don't promise me that when you don't know for sure." He sighed holding my shoulders tighter. I snuggled my head closer into his chest.
"Stiles please promise me that you won't so anything stupid while I'm gone." I begged, knowing my bother "please just remember your only human. You don't heal. You can't fight." I pulled away and pushed some hair away from his face. "Your the brains remember." I sighed and pushed another tear away from his cheek. "Your not a soldier. Don't try and be a hero." I said and hugged him one last time before letting him go.
"I love you Haylie." He sighed and I smiled.
"I love you too bro." I turned away and saw Josh closing the trunk of his car and Derek stood by the open passenger side door. I climbed in and Derek rested his hands on the open window.
"Call when you get somewhere safe okay," Derek said leaning down so he could look at me. "As soon as he's dead your gonna come back and were gonna sort ourselves out again alright?" He said and I nodded pushing hair behind my ears.
"Derek, look after him please." I said motioning to stiles. He nodded with a chuckle.
"Yeah somebody has to." He joked but I couldn't bring myself to smile.
"I'm sorry about Peter." I whispered unsure if I should mention it. He nodded and sighed.
"Now you really are all I have. So please get somewhere safe before you get yourself killed." He begged and I nodded. He reached behind him and pulled out a picture before handing it to me. "Just in case you forget what I look like." He smiled at the picture of me and him sitting on his couch. I had taken the photo. My legs were on his lap and he wasn't even looking at the camera like I was. He was looking at me with happiness in his eyes. I looked back to him.
"I could never forget what you look like." I smiled taking in his beautiful green eyes and dark hair. "I won't be gone long enough to." I said and grabbed the back of his neck pulling his lips to meet mine. It was only for a moment. But in that moment I knew everything was going to be okay, because when I came back, me and Derek would start again. He was right. We were meant to be together. Derek pulled away and stepped back. I hadn't realised Josh had started the car but with one last wave towards my family we drove away.
"So how does San Francisco sound to you?" Josh asked as we drove threw the darkness. I nodded.
"I've never been." I admitted and reached into my pocket taking out the necklace. Josh looked over and saw my fiddling with it.
"You know, I'm still surprised you still have that." He said but I ignored him thinking back to something.
"Why were you so angry when you saw I had it?" I asked and he looked to me confused. "When I came to the Argents house looking for Allison and I walked into your meeting." He sighed remembering the event. "And everyone always recognised it. People said it was dangerous?"
"As you know the necklace was Sarah's. I had it made and gave it to her. Even after we broke up she always wore it. It always made Simon jealous. He thought she still loved me." He sighed and I knew talking about her still hurt him. "Simon had this crazy idea that Sarah didn't die during childbirth And he thought he could find her still wearing the necklace. So he spread the word. He faked his own death about a month after you were born so maybe Sarah would return to beacon hills thinking it was safe."
"Why would he think she was alive?" I asked slipping the necklace back on my neck.
"Because Charles told him she was." He explained. "Charles and Sarah were connected. Because of the anchor curse Charles could feel her. He told Simon he would have felt her die." I shook my head.
"Then how do you know she died?" I asked and he scoffed.
"I saw her dead body, I buried her at the funeral." He said like it was obvious. "Trust me Haylie. If your mother was alive I would tell you." He said with a sigh.
"So Charles didn't take Sarah because Simon loved her?" I asked and Josh nodded. "As simple as that." I said not believing it.
"Some people say it had something to do with her being pregnant. Charles didn't want her even though she was identical to the woman he loved before he died. So as I've told you before. He got a witch to curse you as well, while you were still In Sarah's body. When you turned 16 he was suppose to come and find you but I guess nobody brought him back. Maybe Simon wanted to find you first and hand you over."
"Did you ever meet Charles?" I asked and he shook his head.
"No but Chris did. And Derek's father john. They tried to stop Simon bringing Charles back but were too late. They both almost died trying to get to Sarah. And they both watched as Simon begged for her life."
"Simon doesn't seem like the begging type." I said with a small laugh.
"Love changes people. He would have done anything for Sarah. He was even willing to raise you as his own. Over my dead body of course." Josh said with a smile. I looked out into the dark woods.
"Am I connected to Charles too?" I asked not looking at him.
"I dunno. If you were then I think he would have found you by now" I nodded half agreeing.
"So what are we gonna do when we get to San Francisco?" I asked and looked to him with a smile.
"We are going to...."
He never finished his sentence. And we never made it to San Francisco.
.............................................
My eyes started to peel themselves open. I moved one of my hands to touch my head but was surprised to feel the cold and dry leaves under my palm. I opened my eyes but was met with the pitch black night sky. Something smelled like it was burning and I turned my head to see the car. Josh's SUV . I shoot up from my laying down position. "Josh!" I yelled looking at the flipped over car.
"Over here." I turned my head and saw Josh sat against a tree, pain all over his face. I sighed from relief but heard the crunching of leaves. I turned again and saw Simon walking towards us. Regret masking his features.
"Your awake." He said stopping a few meters from me. "I wasn't sure if it was going to work." He issued and looked my body over.
"What was gonna work?" I asked trying to mask my fear.
"I couldn't let you die." He said the regret leaving his face and the emotionless man returned.
"What do you..." I started but stopped when my wrist caught my eye, as I was lifting it to my forehead. "What did you..." I started when I saw the blood and bite mark covering the inside of my wrist. "You bit me!" I screamed and cried looking at the mark.
"It's not what you think." Simon started and took a step towards me but I scooted away. "Your not a werewolf." He said quickly. I tried to calm myself down, unsure if I should believe him. I looked to Josh who had fear in his eyes.
"You were already dead." He whispered and looked away. "A werewolf bite wouldn't have worked." He cried and I looked back to Simon.
"I couldn't turn you into a werewolf. But I had to save you." I looked back to the bite mark and realised it was human teeth.
"What did you do?" I asked terrified of the answer.
"I turned you." He whispered. "Just not into a werewolf."
"Captivaila."
